She loved the darkness
it offered comfort
shadows allowed honesty
and reflection,
no need to pretend. Her daylight smile
exhausting and fixed
permanently in place
to reassure and deflect
constant need to pretend. Now alone in the dark
smile discarded for a while
allowing tears to flow freely
relaxing and easing
the pressure of pretence. She yearned for the day
she could be open and free
no split personas to uphold
between despair and happy
no more pretence. It was closer than she thought
relief was in sight
someone to take away her pain
enabling happiness in the light
she would never need to pretendnot with him.
