The Beginning:
"Bye Cleopatria don't forget the case on your desk I need it checked out a-s-a-p!" Janet shouted from over her desk as Noonie got ready to leave. For the year that she'd worked under Janet, she thought she'd get nicer, she hadn't, the thirty-year-old Jamaican native was as hard as a rock. Noonie let out a small sigh as she got up from her desk which was right smack dab in the middle of the firm where she worked.
"I'll get on that" She replied closing the file and placing it into her briefcase, smoothing a hand down her finger waves before packing up her things. Noonie swung her bright red purse over her shoulder, sashaying down the hallway in her heels that matched her purse with her hips swaying side to side.
"Bye Cleo!"
"Bye Andrew!"
"Bye Cleopatria!"
"Goodbye, Char!"
Noonie wasn't the same girl she was five years ago, mentally and physically. She was no longer fit, she had more cushion on her body and face. She'd cut her hair to her ears, started wearing makeup and bright colors to switch up her style and never left the house without looking presentable.
But despite her physical changes, Noonie's mental change is what really let people know she was different. She was no longer shy and timid, she'd outgrown her childish mentality and no longer let every little thing get to her. She was secure in her confidence and was open to exploring her sexuality and speaking her mind. Even though it took a few years, Noonie was open for this change, she was ready for it.
In the wake of graduation, Noonie had gotten accepted into Howard, getting through four years of what felt like hell in Washington before entering her dream job. Social work. Noonie wasted no time moving back to Jersey after college taking her favorite roommate with her where they both began to pursue their careers. She was always the light at work as she'd always been and was very patient with her kids, taking every case personally.
After 'that' night, Noonie had taken her things and moved into the house her grandmother had reserved for her after getting emancipated, but when that finally became too much she moved into a two bedroom apartment with her infamous roommate. She had decided to stop depending on everyone and finally get thicker skin, Noonie was tired of being treated as less than, and would much rather spend her life happy and doing something she loved.
"Hello Angel, yes I am on my way home" Noonie smiled into the phone. She was speaking with her roommate Angel, who's personality lived up to her name.
Angel was around the same age as Noonie. She had black dreads that draped down her shoulders complimenting her dark skin and sharp bone structure, piercings were in her tongue, belly button, and nose and she didn't shy away from revealing clothing on her petite body. Even though she appeared intimidating to most, once you got to know her Angel was the sweetest girl you'd ever meet.
She and Noonie were like two peas in a pod, so it wasn't surprising they had agreed to stay with each other.
"Good cause little Mia misses you" Angel laughed. Mia was the five-year-old foster Noonie was responsible for until tomorrow, it wasn't apart of her job, but she loved giving fosters temporary homes, let them show the best of themselves, and then find them a permanent home. It didn't always happen like that but for the most part, Noonie was successful.
"Well tell her I am ten minutes away" Noonie sighed popping open her car door. Ryan had let her keep her car since she would be keeping Derek's now that he was in jail and that made Noonie's life much easier. "What's the move for tonight? I'm stressed I need some fun"
