Three weeks later...

Katari glanced around the kitchen at John's house, her metal spoon clanking around the fruit loops in her bowl, her feet swinging in her chair.

It was a Monday, Katari was supposed to be picked up from school by Paul per usual, however, he never showed. After an hour had passed by, Katari decided to call John, the only brother she actually trusted.

"Mom? It's John. Have you seen or heard from Paul?"

Katari could hear the faint voice of her foster Mother and instantly rolled her eyes. The lady was still giving her hell and Katari was still pissed off for losing her hair.

She noticed John glance her way before he turned around completely so that she wouldn't hear him.

"You don't think Dad..." He drifted off. "No, no, Mom I'm just saying it's a possibility...fine. Call me back." John sighed.

"So!" He stated turning back around. "How's it been over there? You enjoying it?"

Katari glared up at John, a blank expression still on her face and anger prancing through her eyes.

"Ok. That's fine don't talk" John frowned.

He watched as Katari hopped off of the stool she was sitting on, disappearing from his sight.

"Don't break anything!"

Hearing his voice in the distance, Katari rolled her eyes, running her hands over the many lacrosse trophies he had on his shelves.

John prided himself on his achievements and by visiting his house, you could tell.

Katari passed by a wall of certificates, a variety of track medals that hung next to them, and a glass cabinet of dollar coins that seemed to catch her attention.

She creaked open the cabinet, sneaking one of them out of their socket and slipping it into her back pocket. John wouldn't notice.

Katari studied group pictures from some of John's jobs with him and his co-workers, seeing how happy he was during his days of being a social worker.

"Ah, the good ole days" John sighed behind her, causing her to jump.

"You don't work there anymore?" Katari muttered.

"Hmph, so she does speak!" John laughed. "No I don't, I wish I did though" He sighed.

Katari studied some of the pictures. One from five years ago, when he first started out, his hair buzzed down and a nervous smile on his face paired with an awkward thumbs up.

Two from about three years ago, a couple of different co-workers and a huge birthday cake in front of his face that was bright red from laughing. He looked a little more comfortable, happy.

Then the last one from just last year, a going-away party, his face was still red, but this time from crying, his co-workers wrapped their arms around him and mushed cupcakes into his face, and Katari couldn't help but notice that his eyes were rested on just one person.

"Who is she?" Katari pointed at the lady with the bright lavender finger waves. Her smile stretched from ear to ear, her dark cheeks holding a hue of red. She recognized that woman.

"Her? That's a girl I uh used to work with, they call her Tri." He explained, his face turning into a frown.

"Tri" Katari muttered to herself. "Is that her real name?" She asked John.
