Chapter 1: Hope and Despair

Twilight Sparkle woke up with a pounding headache. She darted her eyes open to realize that she wasn't at home. This room had red walls and a wooden floor with a desk against the wall. Other than the bed she lay on, that was pretty much it. She then remembered what she was doing before waking up. "Princess Celestia..." Twilight muttered to herself. She darted out of bed and swung open the door. She ran downstairs into the dining hall. Twilight saw fifteen other ponies sitting around a table. One seat was empty. Twilight walked over and sat in the chair. Glancing around the room, she recognized all the ponies. "Twilight?" Applejack asked, "Is that you?"
"Applejack? What are you all doing here?" Twilight asked.
"Um, I don't know." Fluttershy murmured.
"Maybe we're here for a party!" Pinkie Pie wondered aloud.
"I don't think anyone would knock us out for a party, darling." Rarity said.
"I'm surprised they could catch me! I was flying everywhere looking for the princess!" Rainbow Dash exclaimed.
"Yeah, I'm surprised they could catch you!" Scootaloo repeated.
"Where is Princess Celestia, anyway?" Sweetie Belle asked.
"I dunno, she's been missing for weeks!" Applebloom replied.
"Why would you blank-flanks know anyway?" Diamond Tiara teased.
"Yeah, you don't even have your cutie marks!" Silver Spoon laughed.
"You need to cooperate!" Princess Cadence exclaimed.
"That's right! If we're going to get out of here, then we need to be a team!" Shining Armor agreed.
"Maybe we could try the windows?" Derpy asked.
"No, they are boarded up." Doctor Whooves replied. (I can hear the Whovians screaming their heads off)
"I could use my magic to get out!" Trixie exclaimed.
"It's going to take more than magic to do that!" A booming voice shouted from every direction. The sixteen ponies looked around the grand dining hall in search for the voice. On the stage, shrouded in mist, appeared Princess Luna, her right side facing the ponies. Twilight sighed in relief, "Luna, I'm so glad to see you! I-" Twilight was cut off when Luna turned to face them. Everypony gasped, for her right side was Luna, but her left was Nightmare Moon. "What happened to Luna????" Derpy screamed.
"Luna? That's not my name anymore. I am Lunar Nightmare!" She pointed to her Luna side, "Half hope," she pointed to her Nightmare Moon side, "and half despair."
"Hope? Despair? What are y'all talkin' about?" Applejack demanded.
"My my, Applejack, you really don't know? It's what makes the world function, what makes us us. Fighting despair was too hard, so I became hope and despair!" Lunar explained
"Why are we here?" Cadence asked.
"Simple! You are here to play a game. The only way to get out is to kill one of your peers." Lunar said, grinning. Everypony shuddered. The Crusaders hugged each other in fear. Fluttershy buried her face in her hooves muttering, "This can't be happening! This can't be happening!"
"When a body is found, you have one hour to gather evidence. Afterwards, we will have a Class Trial. If the killer is found guilty, then only they will receive punishment. If not, then everyone but the killer will be punished and the killer will win!" Lunar explained, laughing.
"What 'punishment?'" Doctor asked.
"Death." Lunar coldly replied. Everypony murmured in fear. Sweetie Belle decided to ask, "But where is Princess Celestia?" Lunar hesitated. She finally answered, "You'll see," before disappearing. The ponies stared at each other for what seemed like hours. They finally decided to split up into groups to explore the castle. Twilight didn't know what would happen. She just knew that she wouldn't like it.
