Everyone is pumped for Kai’s surprise. We all have our own separate tasks to perform, and I am in charge of cake. I want to try and make a homemade one for Kai, but today is the last chance I get at it, and Kai wants to come over. I’ll just have to be sneaky about it.

As I start preparing the ingredients, I hear footsteps. I turn, and ram smack bam into a solid chest and warm arms.

“You didn’t lock the door.” Kai whispers in my ear, as he hugs me.

“Oops.” I hope he hears, but I doubt it, since I spoke right into his chest.

“So, whatcha doin’?” Kai releases me, and I go back to preparing my ingredients.

“I’m making a cake. I’ve never made one, and I’d like to try my hand at it.”

“Caaaaan I help?”

“Ok. Hand me the eggs, please.” Kai hands me the eggs, and I crack them into the milk and butter. “Here, mix this.” I hand over to Kai the whisk, and he takes over. I prepare the dry ingredients, and as I pour the flour into the mixture, I get an idea. I take a small handful into the palm of my hand, and blow on it. It goes all over the back of Kai’s neck and shirt.

“Wha?! What’s this for?! This isn’t how you’re supposed to treat someone helping you make a cake!”

“It’s for walking into my house and scaring me!” I laugh at his face, and turn back around to continue mixing my dry ingredients, but I suddenly feel something hit the back of my head and a liquid running down my spine. My mouth falls open in shock and horror, as I turn around to face my abuser.

“???”

“Y-y-your face!” Kai is holding his sides, and laughing his ass off. My hand shakes as it touches the thing on my head, and turns out its an egg.

“Oh I see how it is!” I grab an egg and a hand full of flour, and while he was doubled up laughing, I cracked the egg on him and threw the flour over it. Well, that stops his laughter. He looks at me, with egg yolk on his forehead and bits of flour all over his head and face.

“I’m going to be mature…and not retaliate.” He says quietly. I think I made him angry...

I quietly get some towels for us, but the next thing I know, Kai has thrown flour all over me, too. I suddenly scream, not even realizing I had screamed.

“KAI!!! YOU LITTLE-!” So this was his plan. UGH!! I glare at him, but he looks so silly laughing so hard while covered in flour and egg, that I can’t help but laugh at him, too.

“This is hopeless. I’m going to take a shower.” I say.

“Oooh. Can I join?” Kai laughs as I turn red and shove him away as I walk past.

After I finished my shower, Kai takes his turn, and I go downstairs to clean up. I’m pleasantly surprised to see that Kai had cleaned up, and all the ingredients had been mixed and were ready to be put into a cake pan.

I pour the mixture into a cake pan, and set the oven up. While the cake cooked, I prepar the icing mixture. The instructions say to place the icing into the fridge to chill, so just as I did, Kai comes back downstairs.

“Sorry I have to go. I’m working in an hour.” Kai says. He kisses me on the forehead, and runs out of the house. I walk to the front door and lock it.

Now what to do?

Having nothing better to do, I turn on the TV and sit on the couch. After 20 minutes, the cake is ready. I take it out of the oven, and its heavenly scent wafts around the house. My parents are out at a meeting about their next overseas trip, so the house will be quiet for the next few hours. I check on the icing and find that it has set. I take it out and start working on writing on the cake.

After and hour and a half, I’m finally done, and it looks awesome if I do say so myself. It reads “Happy Birthday, Kai!” I can’t believe it took so long to write such a short message. But now I’ve completed my part of the surprise. Tomorrow is Monday, so after school is when everybody will meet up at Kai’s house to set up the surprise.
