After DJ Octavio's second attempt in taking over Inkopolis and saving Callie from his control, Agent 4 was finally on his way back out of Octo Valley. That is until the whole area around him started to fall apart after the sound of a horrible echoing from below. The audience in the background started to panic and ran out of the now crumbling battle scarred arena. He was about to launch himself right at Callie and Marie on their copter from the respawn kettle, until he was blocked by falling debris knocking him off course and unconscious. He fell straight into the endless abyss beneath the final stage transforming back from squid to kid, leaving a stream of his ink in the air in a downward spiral.

The Squid Sisters wanted to rescue him, but the falling girders, sound systems and the creaking itself were falling down taking the entire place with it. The Squidbeak Splatoon stage ship was their one way out of here and as painful as it is, Sheldon was the driver and made the call to leave Agent 4 behind. Marie had to hold out on the tears until she and her cousin escape the danger, but they'd agree to contact their grandfather Cap't Cuttlefish and his protégé Agent 3 to rescue him along with the help of Agents 5 & 6 (Marina & Pearl). But once they made it out, the entrance was caved in, destroying their only way inside. It will be nearly impossible for them to find another way down without getting crushed, miraculously their grandpa called in saying that he's somewhere down there already, doing something else and somewhere nearby.

In the abandoned subway station, Cuttlefish and Agent 3 were radio contacting Marie via phone. He was relieved to hear Callie again, but over his conversation Agent 3 overheard from the two that Agent 4 went missing and was assumed dead by the fall near Octavio's lair. By her own accord and worry, Agent 4 recklessly went off on her own without consideration of bringing the captain with her. That was truly irresponsible and especially to leave an old man like him in the depths of a subway by himself, but coincidentally he wasn't alone. For during his shuffling around the deeper corners of the station, he finds an Octoling girl lying around and unconscious.

Deeper in the depths of the unknown, we find Agent 4 waking up to the destroyed remains of Octavio's machine and a destroyed response kettle, being the only light sources at the bottom of... Somewhere. Though he was disorientated and battered from his battle, he tried his best to maintain radio contact with Marie... No luck though. As he oriented himself trying to relieve his injuries from the fall, he scopes his surroundings to find that there's hardly any light down here, in the abyss. Out of curiosity, he opted to look at Octavio's machine to see if he could turn on some head lights. To the turn of his luck, his tweaking turned on hidden spotlights coming out of the stage machine, finally shedding light on his surroundings.

The sight he beholds was astonishing, for where he is are ruins of a modern city; similar to Inkopolis but much larger in scale and guessing much grander. From the towering structures to the illegible billboards, this must've been one of the civilizations written in the sunken scrolls. From what he can determine just by observation, Agent 4 guesses that he's in the city square, so much larger than Inkopolis Square by three times. The streets were riddled with rusted broken down cars and for some reason law enforcement barricades, signs that indicated that this was some sort of war zone. The majority of it were piles of garbage along the sidewalks, making Agent 4 want to puke a bit, but the smell of the air was just stale and dusty- not toxic waste or anything like that.

He uses a flashlight on his person to see if there's even a surface at the top of the city, all he saw was a brown cloud covering vastly out of reach of the ceiling. Though the buildings here are extremely high as well, none of them were high enough to get back up to the surface. That is until he sees a flickering blue light across the city, it was faint but visible enough to see from his distance. He tried to look for his Splatterscope Charger, but found the gun itself was broken beyond repair, reducing it into garbage. That wasn't important right now for he only needed the scope to see what's beyond the darkness, it showed him that the blinking light was a shattered window of the highest building above all else. It was a skyscraper that actually holds up to its name, for it penetrates through the clouds.

His goal was set to get home and he's determined to climb out before anything else happens, so he starts to rummage around the and dismantling the Octarian machine and finds that there was a spare weapon in the compartment of Callie's stage, something called an Octo-Squelcher with a Fizzy Bombs and an unknown special called the Ink Wave. This was something that Sheldon would like to see, but it was time to move forward and find his way out of here. Even though his radio signal was out of range, Agent 4 made sure to keep his distress beacon on just in case the Squidbeak Splatoon tried to rescue him.

He rigged up a miniature spawning point from the machine wreckage and the respawn kettle, soon he was set on a death march through a forgotten site never meant to be seen by either Inkling or Octoling. Traversing the first few blocks was straight forward nothing more than abandoned streets and debris from the past, until he started to see a much larger picture beyond the darkness. Shooting his ink to forge his path towards the skyscraper he finds what seems to be thick webs of unnatural structures, the smell was sweet and pleasant out of everywhere else here. And upon closer inspection, the weird structures turned out to be some sort of old fossilized candy, possibly old solidified gum.

This was very strange to find, for this was only after the fourth street block. The further he ventured further the more he realized that the heart of the past battle was directed at the highest tower. And from just looking at the posters over the city, it was propaganda between two sides: Ninjas VS Slimes. Whatever this battle was about, it must've had something to deal with this realm's demise. Seeing that more of these sweet smelling abstract structures are around the bottom of the tower. After analyzing the structural integrity of the thick gum structure sticking around the other buildings, Agent 4 finds a way up into the the top of the tower after seeing that the thinner gum strands can act as rails.

Once he found the perfect starting point from the bottom right in front of the sealed double doors, he began his rail grinding and hopping all the way up to an opening in the back of the building where he was able to crash through. In the distance all the way back to the crash site, something large approaches from a distance resonating monstrous echoing noises crushing the makeshift respawn point with a titanic malformed claw. Whatever the entity is, its multiple eyes set the building ready to feast on its next unsuspecting meal.
