"Esme said another twenty minutes or so until dinner is done. Wanna head upstairs?" He asked.

"Or we could, ya know, spend some time with the family before we leave tomorrow," I said.

"I hate when you're right," he said. I smiled at him softly and grabbed his hand before walking inside to the kitchen where Esme and Carlisle were talking.

"Hello loves," Esme said. "Another twenty minutes or so and your dinner will be done."

"I told her that, but she was insistent upon spending the next twenty minutes with you guys since we're leaving for Gettysburg tomorrow," Jasper said.

"You should leave a little early," Esme said. "I heard that there's a huge snow storm that's about to hit between here and there."

"We'll be okay, Mom," I said. She smiled at my use of the term, wanting nothing more than to be a mother. "But, if you think it's best."

"Her, Alice, Rose, they all think it'd be best," Carlisle said. "And, I have to agree."

"I think we should leave early then darlin'," Jasper said.

"Me too," I said. "Thank you."

"Anytime dear," Esme said. I headed over to the table and sat my coffee down before taking a seat in one of the wooden chairs.

"Viv," Jasper said as he sat down beside me.

"Yes," I said, looking up from the Cullen crest bracelet that Mom had made for me.

"Are you sure you're okay to travel?" He asked.

"I'm fine," I said, fake coughing to make a point. Unfortunately, faking coughing led to a real coughing fit. Carlisle was in the room in under a second and the two were fussing over me.

"I-I'm f-f-fine," I stammered out between coughs.

"Babe, we should cancel and change you now before you get any worse," Jasper whispered soothingly as I finally calmed down.

"We've been looking forward to this for months," I said.

"And once you're changed we'll have eternity to do whatever we want," Jasper said. "Within reason of course." I figured Carlisle was still in the room.

"Jasper, you're sister's just dropped almost a grand on new clothes for me," I said.

"Which they will happily do again should we decide to go," Jasper said.

"I'm going to be okay," I said.

"Carlisle, we have to tell her," Jasper insisted. I looked away from Jasper and towards Carlisle to try and figure out what he was talking about.

"Vivian, you have cystic fibrosis. It can be fatal," Carlisle said softly. He sounded exactly like you'd expect for a doctor talking to a patient, but nothing like you'd expect from a Dad talking to his daughter.

"I know. I was diagnosed when I was younger. It was all in the files they gave you," I said.

"Yes, but you were never treated. That's why you're so small and you don't grow a lot. I think you might have a lung infection. I won't know for sure without testing, but you refuse to do anything involving needles," he said.

"So, what?" I asked softly.

"We can change you now and the pain will go away. The coughing and the stomach pains and other symptoms that you refuse to tell us about; it'll all go away. You just have to agree. You'll be lucky to make it to age 20 because you weren't ever treated," Carlisle said.

"Fine, but you owe me a trip to Gettysburg," I said, glaring at Jasper slightly.

I heard Alice scream about this not being fair from Jasper and I's bedroom before she came running, at vampire speed, into the dining room.

"Seriously, you decide now that you aren't going?" She asked angrily. She looked too much like a fairy to scare me though, even if she was angry.

"Alice, you're cute when you're angry. Like a little fairy," I said. She rolled her eyes at me as Esme carried my food into the room and sat it on the table.

"Let the girl eat in peace," Esme said, shooing Alice away.

"Fine, but I'm so taking those cute jeans," she said.

"You can have em," I said, not caring about the new clothes at all.

"Thanks, Mom," I said, smiling at Esme as she snuck her way into Carlisle's arms.

"Vivian, if you don't mind me asking, why do you call Esme Mom?" Jasper asked.

"Cause she is the first real Mom I've ever had," I said.

"So why don't you call Carlisle Dad?" Jasper asked.

"He asked me not to. I don't know why," I said.

"It sounds weird. I do think of you as my children, but you all had lives before this family," Carlisle said, shrugging slightly. I could tell he was lying but didn't want to push it anymore.
