Izel

The next morning I woke up with a big headache. I felt my phone vibrating but I didn't know where it was.

I focused my eyes and looked through my blankets.

When I found it, I saw Travis calling me. I huffed and rolled my eyes.

"Hel-.."

"Is this the famous Izel? O-M-G" He acted.

"What do you want Travis?"

"Mama want you to come to dinna' wit us."

"You know I'm not coming."

"You wanna tell that to mama? Bet. Mama!" I heard him call her.

"No, Travis-.."

"Hello?" I heard Ms.Sheila voice.

"Hey, Ma." I laughed nervously. "You invited me to dinner?"

"Well, of course. I'm making king crab legs, I got some corn on the cob, I even made a potato salad, I rarely make anything that has the word salad in it." She went on.

"Yea, I'm not coming." I spoke.

"Why not?" Her tone had changed. "It's because of August? Listen, whatever happened, it was the past. Just because things didn't work out doesn't mean you two big headed kids cant be in the same room with each other for at least an hour." She spoke.

"So I have no choice?" I giggled.

"That's right! Now be over here by six. Love ya!"

She hung up the phone and I groaned. I was about to get up until I felt my phone vibrate again.

"What?" I answered with a frown.

"Damn, what I do?" I heard Reggie chuckle.

"I'm sorry, I didn't read who was calling me." I palmed myself on the forehead. "Good morning."

"Good morning to you too. What you got planned today?"

"Long story short, my ex's mom invited me to dinner." I got up and walked to the bathroom. I put my phone on speaker.

"That's why you sound upset?"

"Hell yea! That dude hates me for no reason. He always makes me feel bad." I shook my head.

"Then don't go." Reggie chuckled.

"It's a forced invite."

"Well let me put a smile on your face before you go over there."

"Reggie..."

"Please? You know you wanna see me girl." He laughed.

"I'm about to get in the shower. I'll text you when I'm ready." I smiled.

"I'll be waiting."

August

"This one, or this one?" Tatianna held up two dresses.

"Neitha'." I chuckled.

Right now, I was at her house helpin' ha' out wit' what she gon' wear tonight. She wanna impress my mom.

"Boo, you not helping." She whined in threw the dresses in the pile of clothes.

"You not supposed to even dress up. It's just a dinna'." I shrugged.

"Dinner with your mom. I hate the parent thing, you know that. I need to look good."

"Alright, here's a tip. Don't wear nothin' bright, because there's gonna be butta' at the table." I chuckled.

"You play entirely too much." She shook her head.

I walked through her closet and looked for a nice shirt and jeans for ha'.

"What're you doing?" She frowned.

"Pickin' out ya fit." I spoke while still searching.

My phone started to ring so I answered befo' Tati did.

"Wassgood?" I answered.

"Where yo ass at!" Brittany yelled through the phone. "Damn g, chill wit' dat." I frowned. "I'm wit' Tatianna." I sat back on her bed.

"We at yo' house. What size shoe you wear?" She giggled.

"Don't go through my shit Britt. What you callin' me fo'?"

"Oh, Travis informed me Izel is coming. I thought you'd be pi-.."

Before she could finish, I hung up.

"Baybeh, Ima go home. Be there by six, aight?"

"Yes sir." She giggled and gave me a kiss.

When I made it back home, I saw Zane and Britt sittin' on the couch.

"Where Travis at?" I sat my keys down.

"Kitchen." Zane spoke.

I walked in there and saw him and mama fussin' bout somethin.

"Is dis' argument bout why the hell you invited Izel?" I frowned.

"Lil boy, watch ya mouth." Mama crossed her arms.

"Why yall keep inviting her to everything like she family?"

"Cus she is family homeboy." Travis spoke.

"You and Izel need to leave that stubborn stuff in the past. Y'all acting like kids." Mana shook her head.

"And I aint invite her, fa' ya' information. But I called and confirmed dat she is comin', whetha' she like it or not." He shrugged and walked off.

I shook my head and walked upstairs.
