i like the flavour of you
sweet like honey
dripping from my plump lips
as i taste every inch of you.
i like the flavour of the sky
the clouds like cotton candy
the breeze like peppermint on a cool day
a hint of lemonade when the sun shines on me.
i like the flavour of each book i read
each poem i write
like rose water in a vanilla cupcake
buttercream frosting coating my tongue.
i like the flavour of saying
i love you
sweet as sugar coated strawberries
a milk chocolate fountain.
i like the flavour of the first time we kissed
root beer and hot dogs
from that baseball game we saw
on our first date.
i like the flavour of that festival we went to
cherry coke and rocket popsicles
as we walked around the park
hand in hand.
i thought every flavour i ever encountered
i would like
i thought they would coat my tongue with sugar
sweet as candy.
but then i tried a different flavour
like bitter black coffee
my tastebuds revolted
i tried to spit it out.
you didn't like this new flavour
i couldn't get off of my tongue
no matter how many times i brushed my teeth
it remained, staining my lips with its bitter presence.
so you left
taking the sugar with you
as i tried over and over to rid myself of this horrible taste
but you had made it worse
and i doubted i would ever taste the sweetness of you again.
