JULY's IN IOWA could be miserable. Summers in the Midwest usually were agonizing, if Dane Ramsey looked back on her eighteen years of life in Bagley Creek, she could honestly say autumn was the best time to be here. However autumn wasn't for a few more months and she knew that she could push through a couple of summer days in the Midwest. Hopefully. Now don't get the nineteen year old wrong, life in Iowa wasn't all bad and there were moments in California where she wanted to call her parents and tell them she wanted to come home. One thing you need to know about Dane was that she wasn't a quitter, and always worked hard to get what she wanted out of life. She could honestly say that people usually tried to get in the way of her success, her success being that she wanted to get more out of this life...whatever that maybe but she knew that she couldn't have it all figured out at just nineteen.

Cutting the engine, Dane let out a sigh as she glanced to her right; over Zion's slouched position to see her house. The living room window was illuminated with a pale yellow, giving Dane the indication that someone was awake even though she had a key.

"Does it look any different to you?" Jake asked sitting on the floor of the tractor, his elbows resting on his knees.

Dane shrugged her shoulders, "It doesn't look different but it feels different...that probably didn't make any sense."

Jake laughed, "it did," he responded with his dimples popping out.

"You've been holding out on us, ma." Nick eyed the house with approval while he cradled his stomach.

Dane shrugged her shoulders. There was nothing specular about the two-level home, as that was just what the place was...home. Although she knew her parents were proud of owning it, as they should be. It was nothing more than a safe haven to Dane, once upon a time.

She took the lead walking up the driveway, the automatic lights by the garage lit up as it registered that there was movement on the lot. With tired legs, Dane dragged them up the three steps...and before she could check the jeans in her hand for her key, she heard the locks clicking from behind the door.
