Tara and Katie arrived at SanWa general in under an hour, which was an accomplishment, and immediately started demanding answers. All they knew was there was a fight and Happy and Jax were transferred out of the prison.
"Girls," Alec shouted as he jogged into the ER waiting room. "Come with me."
They followed after him and ended up on the fifth floor. As they exited the elevator Tara saw the sign on the wall "Medical/Surgical".
"They're in surgery?" She gasped.
"Wait what?" Katie asked.
"They were," he said, giving them both a little tug as he began to walk. "I don't know much else."
"When can we see them?" Katie asked, hurrying along side him.
"Soon," he assured them. "We're about to get al the answers we need."
The trio stopped as a doctor approached them. "Dr. Grant?" Alec extended his arm to shake the man's hand. "Those patients are my clients and these women are their emergency contacts. What happened?"
"The warden hasn't called?" He asked with concern. "No one explained the incident?"
"No," Tara said angrily. "So please, what do you know?"
The doctor shook his head. "They were attacked, it's all I know about what happened. Mr. Teller has a head injury, broken hand and some fractured ribs as well as internal bruising and other minor cuts and scrapes."
"Jax," Tara said quietly, her palm pressed to her chest as she absorbed the information. "Can I see him? Please?"
The doctor nodded and gestured diagonally to Jax's room. "I'll be in shortly to give you more details."
"What about Hap?" Katie said forcefully. "Is he okay?"
"Mr. Lowman has a nasty concussion, a few lacerations, cuts and bruises as well but his biggest issue is his right leg. Whatever they used in the attack shattered his kneecap."
"Jesus," Katie whimpered. "They're going to be okay though, right? Eventually?"
"I believe so," he said confidently. "The orthopedic surgeon repaired the kneecap, he'll be off his leg for a while, but he'll recover."
"He's going to be devastated," Katie sighed. "Can I see him?"
The doctor pointed off toward his room before disappearing with Alec. As long as his clients were breathing he had bigger issues to worry about, like the how's and why's and building an ironclad case against the prison.

"I'm petitioning for immediate release," Alec announced as he strolled down the hall toward their rooms. Katie and Tara were standing close and whispering quietly.
"Really?" They both asked excitedly.
"They're going to be here for a short while and hey cannot get proper care or recover safely if they're shipped back as soon as possible."
"That was my biggest concern," Tara said. "Once they're out of the hospital they'll still be recovering and weak."
Katie nodded. "And that...that'll put a target on them if they're sent back. This was obviously an orchestrated attack."
"Has the warden spoken to either of you?" Alec asked, clearly annoyed. They both shook their heads. "That's a problem," he sighed. "I'll be in touch," he gave Katie a hug and shook Tara's hand before leaving again.
"This is crazy," Tara muttered.
"And scary," Katie added. "They were so close to getting out unharmed."
"Guess whoever it was wanted to do it before the guys got out," Tara mused.
"Or they planned it only because they are getting out," Katie said quickly. "Like someone who was really pissed they got parole."
Tara looked at Katie, "Wait. You think she would?"
"Yeah," Katie huffed. "Don't you?"
"I do," Tara sighed. "But honestly, felons are easier to deal with."
"Ye-" Katie stopped when she saw the light above Happy's door flick on. "He's awake! That's the call button light!" Swiftly Katie swung open the door to see a bleary eyed Happy looking confused. "Hey," she said quietly. "You okay?"
"No," he grumbled. "I'm not."
"I'm just glad you're awake," she sat beside him again. "The nurse will be here in a second."
"What happened?"
"You got jumped," she said, surprised he didn't remember.
"No," he sighed, "I know. How's Jax? What's the damage?"
"Uh, he's still unconscious, he has a pretty nasty head injury and a broken hand but they said he'll be okay. Your knee is pretty fucked up, they had to put a plate in or something."
He hissed and laid his head back down. "Can't ride, can't vote," he groaned. "Hands and legs, that was on purpose."
"That's a rule?" Katie asked, never having been formally introduced to the rules and regulations of SAMCRO.
"Yeah," he complained.
"Who was it?"
"I dunno," he shook his head. "But they went after my eye, got Jax's head and hand and my knee, they had a plan. A better one than most inmates."
"Your eye," she gasped, "Is that what this is?" Katie asked as she ghosted over the long gash, stitched with precision, that ran down his cheek.
"Yeah," he muttered. "What's Alec doing? If we go back-"
"You're not going back," she said, her voice cracking. "You can't."
"Yeah, guess we'll find out."
