Remaining eerily calm, keeping her eyes shut, as Eglee drove her to the station and led her inside, Katie already had a to-do list. Post bail, pack hers and the kids' belongings, have Alec file divorce and custody paperwork then leave Charming. It was a short list but it would not be easy.
"Uh," Eglee stopped. "Hold on."
"What?"
"I don't think holding is the best place for you."
"Why?"
Eglee frowned. "Some of your guys are down there."
Nodding, Katie tried to be convincing. "It'll be fine. I'll be good. I swear."
Hesitating, looking Katie in the eye, Eglee relented and then started walking again. "Please don't fly off the handle again. I don't want to actually have to charge you. They're moving the guys soon, okay?"
"Where too?"
Eglee shrugged. "I don't know. Feds don't tell us much, just bust in here and take over."
"Sucks," Katie shrugged. "It'll be fine. Really."
Giving her one last stern and suspicious look, Eglee led her halfway down the hall and placed her in the last remaining empty cell.
"What are you doing here?" Happy hollered from the far end. "What's going on Candy?" The guys insisted on calling Deputy Eglee by her first name, it fostered a sense of kinship and kept her friendlier than her colleagues.
Katie remained silent while Eglee provided a vague explanation, "Disturbance call," before scurrying away.
"Disturbance?" Happy asked, Jax and the other Sons also locked up leaned in and listened closely.
"I was a little disturbed when I found out my husband is a disloyal, lying, shitty cheater." She said calmly.
"Disloyal cheater?" He asked angrily, picking the two descriptors that hurt and offended him most. "What are you talking about?"
"I. Saw. Pictures." She spat. "Your skinny, tattooed-self fucking some trashy blonde. I saw it with my own fucking eyes you asshole. Just so you know, 90% of the time I faked my orgasms."
Jax and Tig laughed, loudly, but Happy was far from amused. "Katie, I didn't."
Glaring at him she shook her head, hate in her eyes. "I don't believe you."
"Baby, please," he said, heartbroken by that simple admission.
Sitting on the cot, the old legs creaking as she did, Katie shrugged. "I'm not even sad. I'm mad. I'm pissed I ever trusted you. I gave up everything for you, Hap. My job, my body," she grabbed her soft stomach, "My independence, my sanity, my money. Shit, I almost gave my fucking life."
"I never cheated on you," he yelled, gripping the bars of his cell.
"Katie," Jax interrupted.
"Shut up," she snarled. "I did everything for you assholes," she sighed heavily. "All of you but you all betrayed me. I'm taking my kids and I'm leaving this shitty fucking town."
"Those are my boys," he yelled at her. "You can't take my sons, you bitch."
"Watch me," she challenged him.
"Hey," Jax stood up. "You can't take our kids," he pointed to Happy as he spoke.
"What's going on?" Instead of Eglee, Deputy Kane appeared. "Settle down," he ordered Happy who was furiously shaking his cell door and kicking the small cots off the wall. He didn't obey, the order only enraged him even more, so Kane roughly removed him, with backup.
