"Whew!" Iris wiped her forehead. "It's hot out!"
"It's the middle of June, what do you expect?" Storm replied with a smirk.
"I know, but still! I'm dying here!" Iris pretended to swoon, and she even leaned backward as if to fall over, but when Storm did nothing more than raise an eyebrow, Iris straightened up again. "You're supposed to catch me when I swoon!" she complained.
"Ummm, no thanks," Storm snickered, and she still made no move to help Iris at all.
"Gee, thanks," Iris deadpanned, but before Storm could reply, a cold breeze swept over both of them.
"Oooh!" Iris shivered in pleasure. "Avalon is finally here!" And sure enough, they were. Dark red hair shining in the boiling sun, it was none other than Avalon Maddox themself!
"Your savior has arrived!" he joked, casting another brisk breeze over Iris and Storm.
"Ooooh!" Iris shivered in pleasure again and Avalon laughed.
"Would you two ladies care to join me at the Southern Sea?" they asked.
"Will the breeze be there?" Iris asked hopefully.
"Of course!" Avalon laughed and sent a third gust of icy wind. Then he turned his cerulean eyes on Storm. "You're both sweating up a storm."
"Oh, ha, ha," Storm said sarcastically.
ooo
An hour later, Iris, Storm and Avalon were standing on the shore of the Southern Sea. Plenty of other familiar faces were there as well, everyone else trying to escape the heat just like Iris and Storm. Once they saw Avalon coming, they were quick to rush over excitedly and beg for some cooler weather, which Avalon was more than happy to provide.
"Sure hope it doesn't go to their head," Storm snickered as Avalon awed the crowd with their icy magic.
"Oh, let them have their fun!" Iris chuckled. "You can't deny that it's really handy this time of year!"
"That's true," Storm had to concede.
"Now, come on! Let's join them!" Iris said, looking eager as Avalon conjured up another little "snowstorm". Then, without waiting for Storm, the smaller woman darted forward towards the cool, sweet release of a nice winter wind. Storm watched her go with a scoff.
"Hey Iris!" Avalon waved with one hand while their other continued to control cool currents of air, much to everyone else's delight.
"You come to join the world's greatest AC?" Gale asked, arms wide as Avalon dusted him with ice and show.
"Heck yes!" Iris was quick to run to his side and mimic his posture. Tempest, who was also nearby, laughed at the sight.
"Is Storm with you?" she asked Iris as she continued to fan Avalon's cool breezes towards herself.
"Yep," Iris jerked her thumb over her shoulder. Sure enough, even Storm had finally caved and was walking over.
"Glad you could finally join us," Avalon smirked. Storm didn't have a rebuttal. Instead, she only narrowed her eyes, but she proceeded to stand right in the thick of Avalon's little summer snowstorm.
"I knew you couldn't resist!" Gale teased.
"Oh, shut up," Storm muttered, earning a laugh from Gale.
"Well, there's more than enough room for all!" Captain declared. He and Maxim had also taken the day off to go to the beach, and as soon as Avalon arrived onto the scene, Captain was quick to drag Maxim over to meet him.
"It was just boring having no one to talk to," Storm continued to try to defend herself.
"I thought you didn't like other people," Iris teased.
"Well, I like you," Storm replied shortly, and Iris's smirk quickly changed into a genuinely touched look.
"Awww," she smiled sweetly up at the taller woman. "I love you too!"
"Ha, GAAAAAAAY!" Avalon joked.
"Heck yeah!" Iris smiled at them while Storm gave them another deadpanning expression. At the same time, Captain raised his fist to agree with Avalon while Maxim rolled his eyes.
ooo
After everyone had been suitably cooled down, they all made their way to the sea.
"Now, onto the main event!" Storm sighed as she waded into the water.
"Hey! I thought I was the main event!" Avalon pretended to look hurt as they followed Storm.
"Oh please!" Storm rolled her eyes. "You invited us to the Southern Sea, not to your little winter display!"
"But let's be real, that's the only reason everyone came out to the beach at all," Avalon snickered, and even though that wasn't completely true (since Captain and Maxim had already been at the beach), it was mostly true, as everyone else had been eager to get to the beach once they heard Avalon was going to be in attendance. Including Iris and Storm.
"Heheh, you got me there," Iris grinned sheepishly.
"Well, I can't blame you, no one is immune to my charm!" Avalon puffed out their chest.
"Well, either way, it's swim time," Storm quickly dove headfirst into the waves.
"Sheesh! Killjoy!" Avalon muttered, but they were laughing.
"That's our Storm!" Captain agreed jovially.
The group, along with many others, spent the rest of the day ducking and diving with the waves, relieved to be out of the scorching summer heat. Avalon also performed a few more tricks for other, late arrivals, and they even managed to freeze a tiny part of the sea to create a little ice platform for people to jump off of. Summer was a lot more fun when you had a Gifted on your side, especially if they could create ice and snow.
"Cannonball!" they cried as they dove off their little ice platform, and the others were more than happy to follow after.
