Eyes on You

Chapter 9

Sport's Day is finally here. Just like the years before, all students have no class for at least two days. Most of the time are spent on the field track, each student being wherever they should be. Teachers are also on duty at every station, briefly explaining to the students before any event start. "Dammit. I get to give my house only one point! Last year was better!!" F/n is whining about how the teacher on duty is being unfair by giving her low points. But you just chuckle at her. "Better? Last time you got like two points only! Hahahaa." F/n punch you on your left arm while you're still laughing. "Ugh, where are the others?? My tummy needs food ASAP!!" Again, F/n is whining. "Chill out, they'll be here in a minute." You and F/n is wondering around the center of the field, that's where you guys promised to meet. The students are having their break now before proceeding with the next sports.

"Look, their game hasn't come to an end yet." You point to a group of people on the far end of the track, where your other friends are still waiting for their turn. "WHAT?! That'll make me die first! I'm starving!!" You roll your eyes while F/n flails her arms around. That's when you see Brendon. He's walking with his group of friends towards the cafeteria. While Dallon and the others are busy talking among themselves, Brendon's eyes trail over towards you at the same time and you guys make eye contact. If it's not because of the deal, he would have probably give you the usual death glare. But since both of you have grown close; thanks to all the helps from each other; he smiles at you. You can't help yourself but to feel like falling for him everytime he smiles. Ah, the smile. His smiles are the best, always giving you these weird butterflies in your stomach. But you always shrug that thought off, thinking that it's impossible for you two to get together.

As he smiles at you, you are not wasting any more time and smile back at him. You feel your cheek getting warm as the time goes slower. A bit dramatic there. But you are brought back to reality when F/n nudges you. "Patrick's approaching! On your 3 o'clock!" You have no time to think or act. As you turn your head to your right side, you are met with Patrick's face, a bit too close for your liking you guess?? "H-hi Y/n. It's been quite long since we last have a good chat, eh?" He ends his sentence with a nervous laugh. And since when you guys had a 'good chat' ?? All you could remember was 'hi' and 'good morning' exchange between the two of you. That's because you've been trying so hard to avoid him. The guiltiness hits you again.

"You know what, I have an idea. We should hangout at a coffee shop or something! You know, to make up for all the time we missed?" You almost faint at Patrick's idea. This is your worst nightmare so far. You must think of an excuse but, do you have the heart to crush the hope and dream of this innocently cute guy in front of you?? Patrick is giving you the puppy dog stare that could melt anyone's heart. "I-i...aaa.....umm," Luck is on your side. Brendon suddenly appears next to you and put one of his arms around your waist. "Dude, fuck off. She's mine." And with that, he kinda forcefully drags you away from the scene. What he did just now left a lot of people speechless. First, of course it's you, though you're not sure whether you're surprised by his act or the way he talked to Patrick that way. I mean, who has the heart to use such words for a soft-hearted person like Patrick?

As you are dragged away by Brendon, you can see from the corner of your eyes; Dallon and his other friends are having their jaws hang open. Probably too shocked. Next, it's F/n. Since you never tell her about the deal you and Brendon made, her eyes look like they are about to come out. You feel a bit guilty but you did promise yourself to tell her one day. And of course, Patrick himself. His face displays a lot of emotions - shock, speechless, broken-hearted. You turn your face away from Patrick. You couldn't look at him for now.
