The Day When *Finished*

Dinner

Okay so I think I am going to do a contest! So this contest is someone make me a cover for my story that you are reading The Day When. Whoever's cover I like the most I will use and I will also give that person a shout out. Let the covers begin! More info will be at the end of the chapter.

I stayed up in my room the whole time dad was downstairs. When my mom got home I heard her talking to dad about dinner. I think he had told her because she is in my room talking about how he is trying so hard to sober up and that he is sorry.

"Mom?"

"Yes?"

"Why did you leave him?"

"You know the answer to that Maddie."

"Just tell me again"

"Well he came home one night and he was drunk. You and your brother were asleep, and he went into our room. I was reading and he started yelling I don't even know what about I couldn't understand him. He threw me out of the bed and you already know we had problems before that. He slapped me and pushed me. He went to the bathroom so I left him in there. I got most of my stuff then packed you and your brother's bags as fast as I could woke you up and we went to grandma's"

"And you don't think that he needs to feel sorry?"

"Madison he has had years of feeling sorry and guilt."

"Yea and he solved that by what? Drinking?"

"Whatever Madison stay up in your room, for now, I have to go, cook. Dinner will be ready in one hour"

"I'm not hungry"

"Then you don't have to eat, just come down so we can all talk."

I spent the rest of that hour thinking and reading. First, my mom is my best friend and she deserves so much better than a drunk. Second, what are we going to talk about? Third, it smells like spaghetti and I really miss spaghetti.

"Madds?" Alex walks in "Dinner is ready mom wants you to come down."

I sigh and walk behind my brother to the dinner table.

"Hungry yet?" my mom asks plating her food. I shake my head

"So Chris what have you been doing?" my mom starts out. I love how she can so easily start a conversation just like Alex.

"Nothing I just got a new apartment not far from here actually"

"So will you be here more often?" Alex says and I guess mom heard the panic in his voice too because she kicked him in the shin under the table.

"Maybe. So anything new with you guys?"

"Madison got a boyfriend," mom says. Wow, thanks, mom just what I need.

"What is his name?" his eyes narrowing at me

"Edward Cullen," I say

"Is his father the doctor?"

"Yes"

"Good, maybe he will be successful like his dad."

"Thanks, I guess?"

"I made JV soccer," Alex says noticing my discomfort

"Did you?" Dad says with enthusiasm

Dinner finally passes slowly but awkwardly and when it ends I help mom with the dishes and Alex gives Dad his coat and says bye.

"See Madison that wasn't that bad," mom says scrubbing a bowl.

"I guess" I get a rag and wipe off the table "Mom I'm really tired I'm going to bed. Night" I put the rag in the sink "Night Alex!" I yell to the living room.

"Night Madd's"
