Only One Knows the Truth

•Skylar's POV•

"Who's Taylor Caniff?" All the guys' mouths and eyes are wide open.

"You really don't remember?" Cameron asks.

"Nope," Okay, so I remember Taylor. Every single thing about him, but I can't let everyone know I'm a depressed mess just because of Taylor. I'm gonna have to be this happy girl that doesn't have a care in the world for Taylor. If he can pretend to forget me, I can do the same. "Should I know him?"

I hear murmurs of "No," and "Psh, nah,". They are such bad lairs.

"Uh, okay then. What was I saying?"

"You needed to talk to me," Shawn steps forward.

"Right," I say and Shawn and I walk onto the back patio.

"So what's so important that you have to tell me?"

I look down and cry, but Shawn doesn't notice because he can't see my face, "You're not my brother." I look up to be face-to-face with Shawn.

"What do you mean I'm not your brother?"

"I mean that. You are not my biological brother. I've been lied to my whole life. All 15 years of my life. Almost 16 years! The family I thought was mine, isn't. The family I grew up with and that raised me, isn't really my family! That's what I mean, okay?"

"What? How do you know this? How long have you known this?"

"I only found out a few days ago. I was going to tell you, then all of this happened with my memory, and Natalie, and Ta-" I cut myself off as I almost say Taylor's name.

"And who?"

"Uh, Taylor. My friend Taylor."

"Why did you stop yourself from saying her name?"

"She, uh, told me something that I can't tell anyone, so I just thought I shouldn't mention it at all."

"Are you sure about that? Are you sure it isn't just Taylor Caniff?"

"I already told you I don't know who he is! Why do you have to make me feel worse about myself? You all know I'm losing my memory and I probably forgot this Taylor Caniff dude!" I play the sympathy card.

"Hey, Sky, I'm sorry. I didn't mean anything by it." Shawn hugs me. I almost feel bad, but me 'forgetting' about Taylor is good for them too. They shouldn't have to worry about me being depressed. "So can you just tell me how you know I'm not your brother?"

"Mom. You remember that envelope that I got from your dad's room?" Shawn nods his head. "In there was a note that mom-your mom had left me, with my birth papers. I never really looked at the birth papers, I just read your mom's note. It said how I'm not a Mendes, that your father murdered her, and that your mom is alive."

"What? I need to see her," Shawn exclaims excitedly.

"She never left anything for contacting her. She said we will meet her when the time is right."

"Do you want to look at the birth papers? I'll be right by your side. And maybe we can find your family, if you want. It's totally up to you."

"I'd have to think about meeting them, but yeah, can you come to look at the birth papers with me?"

"Of course," Shawn answers like I shoudn't have even asked.

We walk into the house and somehow manage to slip in my room unnoticed. I go to my suitcase which holds the envelope and hand it to Shawn. "You open it. And tell me what the papers say. Oh, and you can keep the note from mom and read it," I command.
