Those Summer Nights

One Year Later...

It's been a year since I returned back to my home town.

Two-bit and I got married and decided to adopt a boy.

We named him Will Mathews.

Will was only three years old and had been abused those three years.

He couldn't believe that he was finally going to have a family again.

He told us that it was the greatest day of his life.

Will has been with us for a few months, and I'm already attached to him.

He loves Jewel Curtis and even though she's only one year old I can tell she loves him to.

For our honeymoon, I took Two-bit to Paris where he got to meet Gustav.

Gustav was very happy for us and very happy to see me.

He showed me the picture I drew for him the last time I was there.

He also said he would always keep it with him for good luck.

Two-bit took my advice and bought a ranch on the countryside.

It's about two hours away from the Curtis house, but it's worth it.

We always visit the Curtis boys on the weekend and let them see Will.

Will is already attending school, and he's just so happy to be apart of a real family who loves him.

My life got so much better when I got back. I even reconnected with Evie.

She felt so bad for not telling me the affair that went on behind my back.

But I couldn't stay mad at her forever.

She told me everything that happened with her and Steve.

She mentioned the reason Steve died was all her fault.

Just because the Socs that killed him were flirting with her days before.

She felt uncomfortable and told Steve what was happening so he dealt with it by challenging them to a fight.

No weapons allowed or so he thought. Evie lives next door to us.

She bought a small house, and I see her everyday.

She told me straight up that she was Will's godmother.

They get along so well.

Evie only wishes she could have had the relationship between Two-bit and I with Steve.

She wanted to grow old with him and have many children but it never happened.

She doesn't regret living close to us though. She's thankful for that.

From all the money I earned over those three years in Paris, I helped Darry pay off his bills for a lifetime.

He was so happy he even started crying and rejoiced.

Ponyboy finished school and is a doctor working in the same hospital Johnny died at.

Soda quit working at the DX and is now a local business agent.

Darry quit roofing houses to spend more time with his wife Terri and his beautiful baby girl Jewel.

"Ready for Will's first day at school?"

I turned to Two-bit and said, "I'm ready for anything."

This summer was amazing especially those summer nights.
