"COLBY! COLBY GET DOWN FROM THE BUILDING RIGHT NOW!" You and Sam screamed in harmony. Colby's face showed he was terrified.
"I forgot where I went to get up here!"
"Colby you have to get down now."
"I-." Colby was cut off by the roof collapsing in.
"COLBY!" You let out a blood curdling scream, taking off towards the building. Sam grabbed your arm, holding you back.
"No! It's not safe!"
"But Colby!" You look back at the building, then at Sam, and collapse to the ground, sobbing. Sam sits next to you, and pulls you in to a hug.
"We have to call 911!"
"I'll do it." Sam says, pulling out his phone. As he was on the phone, his voice was quivering, you could tell he was trying not to cry. He was trying to stay strong. For you, for Colby. The building finally ceased the noise, and all looked still. As you looked at the building, you say Colby lying there. Before Sam could stop you, you ran to him. You fell to your knees.
"Colby, Colby, please wake up. COLBY! colby, please." You whisper the last words, tears streaming down you cheeks. Sam comes up behind you, and you hear him break. His best friend is lying here, lifeless. You decide to give him a moment. "I'll go wait for the ambulance." You calmly say as you walk away, after briefly giving Sam a hug. You hear him fall to his knees and start sobbing and say, "Colby, please don't leave me. Dude, I can't live without you, please stay."
You start crying uncontrollably as the ambulance pulls up. You explain to them what happened and where he is. You follow them as they rush towards him.
"Sir, you're going to have to step away from the patient." They EMT says as he taps Sam's shoulder. Sam slowly gets up, obeying for the slight hope he has that Colby will be ok. You walk over to Sam, and pull him into a hug.
"Everything's going to be okay." You lied to him, and yourself. You knew he wasn't going to be okay. You knew he's gone, there's no hope. But right now, your priority was to help Sam. The EMTs took Colby to the ambulance, and rushed him to the hospital, you and Sam close behind. When you arrived at the hospital, the doctors told you and Sam you needed to wait in the waiting room. That gave you time to call and tell everyone the news. You did it yourself, so Sam wouldn't have to live the pain. You called Corey, and told him to gather everyone.
"Okay, Y/N, everyone's here."
"Um, I'm sorry, but.." You couldn't finish the sentence, you started bawling.
"What's wrong?" Jake had worry in his voice.
"Colby.... Colby's gone."
There was a collection of "what" before Corey asked, "What happened?"
"I-I can't explain right now, I have to do it later."
"Y/N."
You hung up before saying anything else. You couldn't say anything else. One of you best friends was gone. You watched him die. And it was your fault.
