[ name ] heard the bell tinkle as she opened the door; ironic to hear such a sweet sound in a mortician's office.
"Hi," [ name ] greeted the male. "We spoke over the phone?"
"Ah, Ms. [ last name ]!" The mortician said. "Yes, yes, do come in."
"Thank you." [ name ] couldn't help but stare at the older man's orange 'stache, not to mention how cheerful he was to be in this line of work. The nameplate on his desk read "Coran H. W. Smythe", making [ name ]'s [ eye color ] eyes widen a bit at the name; she had never heard of anyone having two middle names.
"Well, do take a seat!" Mr. Smythe said, breaking [ name ] out of her trance. [ name ] smiled politely, taking a seat in one of the comfy chairs that sat in front of the peppy man's desk. "So, Ms. [ last name ]. You're here to talk about the burial options of Lotor Quint, correct?"
"Yes..." [ name ] said, her voice soft. It had only been a day since the altercation with Zarkon, but [ name ] wanted her friend to have a final resting place as soon as possible, wherever that may be.
"Well, we do have a varying selection of burial types." Mr. Smythe placed a small booklet atop the desk. "Before we start, did you have type of burial in mind?"
"Not really," [ name ] chuckled softly. "I'm...new to this, so I wanted to explore the options before deciding." Mr. Smythe nodded, skipping the first few pages before finding the one he wanted.
"This here is an in-ground burial," Mr. Smythe began. "It's your typical burial and one of our most popular, but one of the most costly." The ginger male pointed to a pricing, making [ name ] cringe at the price. He chortled at the reaction. "I can see that's not an option. This is a community mausoleum, which runs for about $4,000."
"Anything on the cheaper side?" [ name ] asked, feeling saddened that she wouldn't be able to afford a proper burial for her friend.
"If his family has a mausoleum–"
"Out of the question." [ name ]'s voice was curt, knowing it was rude to just cut him off, but after the talk with her best friend's father, the girl wasn't very keen on mentioning the Quint name.
"Then we have cremation. It's the most affordable option we have and the lowest we can offer at around $700," Mr. Smythe said, sliding the booklet over to the girl. As [ name ] read the page, she nodded slowly.
"I want this one."

"Sorry that I couldn't get you something better." [ name ] placed the silver urn on the empty spot she had saved on the shelf in her room. A framed picture of the two of them and a vase of white lilies and dark plum violets already occupying some of the space, having been set up days before. As the [ hair color ]-ette looked at the photo, she felt the ache in her heart once more. Seeing the urn, the photo and flowers, it made his death real. Her best friend was dead. There was no him coming back. Ever.
[ name ] sobbed. She sat on the edge of her bed, holding her head in her hands and sobbed. It hurt worse than anything she could have ever imagined. It was like her heart had been taken from her. It hurt worse than when she had found out he had died. It hurt worse than when her boyfriend of four years, Shiro, left her for no reason.
"I'm so sorry," [ name ] hiccupped into her hands. "I'm sorry I didn't stay. Maybe you wouldn't have died and would still be here. We could be on our make-up lunch right now. God, why did I have to leave?!" [ name ] knotted her fingers through her [ hair color ] tresses, feeling hot angry tears replace the sad ones. She let herself shake, knotting her fingers tighter in her hair in a form of inflicting pain upon herself, letting the nauseous feeling overtake her body. The image of Lotor's body on the TV only brought more nausea, causing her to shakily run to the bathroom. [ name ] felt empty without Lotor.
But Lotor was closer than she thought.
