I woke up to a beautiful view of the sunrise from my bedroom window. the sky was a mess of different colours, all the blues, reds, oranges, purples, pinks and yellows blending together like a watercolour painting. it was beautiful. or it was until the peaceful silence was shattered by my sister burst into my room with an exasperated expression.

"get out of bed you lazy ass" she barked at me as she violently yanked my blanket away.

"go away Emma" I whined.

she scoffed, "you should be grateful I cared enough to wake you up in time to catch the bus" Emma exclaimed smugly.

"fine, fine, I'm getting up" I groaned as she walked out of my room and closed the door with a crash.

I quickly pulled on some skinny jeans, sneakers, a cute white crop top, a plain black choker and pulled my hair into a messy ponytail. I went downstairs to see that my sister had already left so I left the house alone. I was walking by the canal toward the bus stop and savouring the weak morning light that filtered through the trees when I heard a loud thud as I neared the bridge that crossed the canal. I looked down into the canal to see a glowing blue sword embedded in the bottom of the canal that dissipated into a cloud of blue sparks almost as soon as I saw it. curious, I went down into the canal to inspect the crack in the ground left by the sword when what seemed like a chunk of the bridge fell came crashing down towards me, just before it hit me I came to senses and dived out of the way just in time. it smashed to pieces right beside me and in the rubble, I spotted a glowing blue light. I pushed the rubble away until I found the source of the blue light, a glowing amulet of blue stone and silver metal. I reached toward the amulet but as I picked it up its glow dulled and it burned white hot, which caused me to drop the amulet back onto the pile of rocks.

"owwww" I groaned as I waved my burnt hand around wildly and tried to cool it down

I was in the process of pouring water from my drink bottle onto my stinging hand when I heard the shouts of some boys heading down towards the canal and I decided that I should leave the canal to avoid them asking why I was standing beside a chunk of the bridge which was a question even I didn't know the answer to. as I left the canal I heard the skid of bike wheels and a boy shouting,

"come on tob's".

as I arrived at the bus stop my sister gave me a dirty look,

"why did you take so long?" she growled.

"I lost track of time" I replied nonchalantly.

my sister glared at me suspiciously but before she could question me further the bus arrived. I let out a sigh of relief as we boarded the bus. saved by the bell or rather, the bus.

History class

I arrived in history class to find our teacher, Mr Strickler talking to the class. as I entered he smiled warmly at me,

"please try to be more punctual next time miss (L/N)" he told me as I sat down at my seat.

"anyways" he continued "the Peloponnesian war was actually three wars fought between Athens and Sparta, the first war is known as the Archidamian war, type that into your search engines please, A-R-C-H... "

his voice faded into the background as I started doing my research. history had aways been one of my favourite subjects, the storys of the old heroes and gods had always facinated me. I was emersed in my work when I came out of my daze.

"wouldn't you agree Jim?" he questioned one of my classmates.

thank god he hadn't asked me, I hadn't listened to anything he'd just said.
