I was out walking to clear my head when I heard a loud crunch and an animalistic groan coming from the trees around the houses on the road I was walking down. gradually, the noises got louder until I spotted two hulking shadows crouching in the trees. I ducked behind a rubbish bin, my heart beating out of my chest. I tried to keep my breathing to a minimum as I peeked cautiously around the bin I was hiding behind to see the creatures lumbering away. as they faded into the darkness of the forest I looked around cautiously before following them into the woods. it seemed the creatures knew where they were going and I could have sworn I heard a few snippets of conversation in English. could it be that they were just people and not monsters? I caught sight of their silhouettes ahead of me and banished the idea of them being human, no normal human had four arms.

a few minutes later the creatures stopped outside a small, fenced off back garden with neatly cut grass. they climbed over the fence and stepped into the dim light from the windows out the back of the house. when I saw what they looked like I had to stuff my hand into my mouth to stifle my scream. one had four arms and six eyes, the other was about three meters tall but that wasn't the worst of it, they both had had stone for skin! their horrible yellowish coloured eyes glowed in the dark and their stone skin was cold and inhuman. they forced open the back door of the house and lumbered in. I had to help whoever was in that house! I jumped over the fence after the monsters and peered in the kitchen window. the monsters were definitely in there but they weren't hurting anyone, in fact, the seemed to be having a civil conversation with the people inside the house, one who was wearing full medieval battle armour. eventually, the one in armour turned around and I realised it was Jim from my history class! and he had the amulet I'd found earlier in the canal embedded into his chest plate! I was about to crack open the window to listen to them when suddenly they all turned toward the front door and bolted up the stairs. I figured there was no point in trying to spy on them any more since I really didn't want to break my neck falling from a second story window. with a last suspicious glare at Jim's house, I ran down the road back towards my house and didn't look back.

the next day at school

I arrived at school to see Jim walking to class with his friend, Toby, who seemed to be looking at something in the back pocket of Jim's school bag. I got close enough to hear a bit of their conversation.

"does it feel like your gonna, y'know, change?" I could hear Toby asking Jim.

he and Jim shared a worried look

"oh no" answered Jim

"we gotta get you someplace that's not here" Tobias muttered hurridly as he shoved Jim into the boys' shower room.

I was about to leave the courtyard to find Maple when I saw Mr strickler staring intensely at the door that Jim and Toby had entered. at the time I had thought it was nothing but oh, how wrong I was.

a few minutes later

after searching fruitlessly for Maple for a while I gave up and decided to watch the tryouts for Romeo and Juliette which were being held in the auditorium. when I arrived Claire, who was auditioning for Juliette, was finishing up her audition.

"give me my Romeo," she said passionately, "and when he shall die, take him and cut him out in little stars, and he will make the face of heaven so fine that all of the world will be in love with night."

as she finished the few kids present clapped and the drama teacher smiled confidently.

"thank you, miss Nunez." the teacher responded with a wink in Claire's direction.

it was obvious she was going to be picked for the role of Juliette, I didn't blame the teacher though, Claire was clearly passionate about Shakespeare and she was a natural performer. I thought the auditions were over until the teacher called "next!" and Jim walked onto the stage in his armour with the amulet glowing at his chest. when the drama teacher saw Jim on the stage she glared at him suspiciously.
