As I ran down the shadowed corridor with renewed vigour, a tendril of silky night reached from the amulet and cradled my hand. It slowly grew, gathering shape until it suddenly shrank away, revealing a shining golden sabre with an intricate handle that curled around my fist, widening at the top to protect my hand. The tip shimmered dangerously in the moonlight, reminding me of a razor-sharp needle. I rounded a corner to see utter chaos erupting. Jim was locked in close combat with Namura and Toby was scrambling around on the floor with a goblin. I stopped at the doorway, hesitant to dive into the fray when Namura noticed me and froze in shock. I met her stare defiantly and noticed the variety of expressions that flickered across her face, the first shock and then to my surprise, fear. Jim noticed her pause and took the opportunity to slash her across the hand. It snapped her out of her shock-induced daze and she turned around to snarl at Jim.

"Ah!" She screeched furiously "I'll kill you for that!"

She pulled out her twin blades, the metal shining rainbow like it was newly forged and dove at Jim with a feral scream. I dove into the fray just as she knocked Jim into the wall and tried slicing her with my sabre but she deflected my flimsy attack as if I was nothing more than an insect, sending me flying into the hard wall with a thud. I looked down through my dazed eyes to see blood staining my left hand, the scarlet liquid dripping from a long cut across my palm but I stood up and charged at her again, green tinged darkness radiating from my blade and casting me in a blanket deadly shadows. Jim lay cornered as she rained down blows on his sword and just as his arm seemed like it was about to fail under the weight of Namura's iridescent swords I leapt in and she was forced to step away from Jim to dodge my blade which I was swinging so fast it was no more than a slash of gold that burned like fire against the bluish shadows of the museum. That bought Jim enough time to stand up and me both pressed against Namura together, our gold and silver blades crossed in unity against her firery red ones. Even though we used our united strength against her she still pushed us back, slamming us into a woven tapestry that did little to stop the pain of the wall smashing to my back. It fell over me and Jim, muffling the bright blue flame of Jim's sword until only my shadows remained. Namura chuckled to herself as she stalked towards the tapestry, the only sound being her sharpening her blades against each other like a feral animal gnashing it's fangs together in preparation to devour its next meal.

"This was fun" she crooned with her husky voice as the tapestry slid away from us "but now you're history!"

I only had time to raise my blade in a weak attempt to deflect her attach as she rose her blades to strike us but she instead knocked away our blades with two flicks of her wrist, the power radiating from them going cold and dull.

"All that fancy armour and you're just scared little children" she hissed as she slunk closer.

My brain blanked in fear as I scrambled off the tapestry but Jim smiled reassuringly at me, the spark of an idea glimmering is his bright cerulean blue eyes. Why eyes widened in understanding as he grabbed the edge of the tapestry.

"Arrogance gets you killed" he told Namura with a smirk and before she could process his next move, he tugged the tapestry out from under her.

The dark green tapestry slid silently across the floor, contrasting with the air piercing screech that came out of Namura's mouth as she yelled in terror and frustration, spinning towards the oblivious goblin that stood behind her. A sound like a balloon popping filled the silent gallery air as the goblin exploded in a shower of sticky green goo.

"No, no!" She cried in panic as the goblins glared at her, howling their war cries, "No, it wasn't me! No! No!"

She barely had time to scream as the goblins cornered her against a crate and descended apon her like wolves. All I could do was watch from the sidelines as someone I'd always considered a friend was attacked by goblins.

"Let's get out of here!" Jim yelled, grabbing me and Toby by the hand as Toby snapped a picture of the gallery with his phone. We ran outside and grabbed our bikes with as much speed as we could muster

"Holy!" Toby gasped as he pedalled bedside us, all of us desperate to escape the chaos from earlier "what the- her face! Did you-"

"that about sums it up" I answered darkly as my armour disintegrated into shadows and the amulet dropped into my waiting hand .

"And the bridge! It had troll markings on it, and your armour" Jim added, gesturing aggressively at my amulet as soon as we had deemed where we were far enough away from the museum and slid off our bikes.

"The bridge? Who cares? There's a shapeshifting troll witch!" Toby spluttered indignantly, painfully reminding me that my friend was a changeling.

"They're walking among us!" Jim yelled at him while I stood awkwardly between the fighting friends. "They could be anyone!"

"We have to tell the others" I agreed firmly.

Toby was about to relate when the shrill whine of sirens pierced the silent night. And a police car rounded the corner, it's bright red and blue lights blinding me for a second as I struggled to come to my senses.

"Hands up" a deep voice declared.

"Why are there police cars?" I murmured to the others as we hurriedly dropped out bikes and put our hands in the air.

"On the ground now" the unseen man continued.

"What did we do?" Toby asked us as we pressed ourselves to the hard concrete, bits of gravel digging into my stomach.

"Apart from breaking and entering?" I replied sarcastically as the man started talking to someone.

"Dispatch, we have the teens that match the description of the museum break-in" he spoke into his walkie-talkie.

Two police officers stepped out of the car, glaring down at us, "you're coming with us." They growled as we glanced at each other worriedly.

As we squeezed into the back of the police car Jim nudged my arm with his elbow to catch my attention.

"Listen, (Y/N)" he told me regretfully "I'm sorry you got caught up in all of . . . This. One minute you're a normal kid then you're shoved into all this troll business with two strangers."

"It's fine" I smiled at him, my (E/C) eyes reflecting in his vibrant blue ones, our fingers brushing in the close proximity, "I have to something to keep me busy, plus" I added mischievously  "the company isn't too bad."
