Chapter 2

"Well, what I'm saying is I just don't think it's fair that they let Ellie be on the team and not Karen. Karen's amazing!" Sam was complaining to Liam as they were heading home to Sam's after the movie. "I mean, yeah sure, Ellie's hot, but Karen's actually good at basketball and then if she made the team instead of Ellie, she could have gotten the guy faster and..."

Liam grabbed Sam's shoulders and looked her straight in the eyes. "Sam! It's just a cheesy romance. It's supposed to be stupid," He let go and grabbed his keys out of his pockets. Sam sighed and walked to the other side of the car and waited for Liam to unlock it.

"Liam! Unlock my door!" Sam pulled at the handle. Liam sat in the driver’s seat with a smile that could light up a dark ally. Sam made a fake evil face and stomped to Liam's side of the car. Liam quickly closed his door and locked it. "Liam!" She yelled one last time. Liam finally reached to her door and unlocked it. She went to her side and climbed in. "I hate you," she said looking straight ahead.

"I know."

When they reached Sam's house to drop her off, Sam got out and looked through the cars open window.

"You what to come in for a bit? Have a snack?" She said in a calm voice.

Liam looked at his watch. "Uh, yeah, sure!" Liam drove in Sam's driveway so he wouldn't get ticketed on the side of the road. They both walked up her path and into her house.

"Hi Liam! How are you?" Sam's mom came out, wiping her hands off in a dish towel.

"I'm great, Mrs. Walsh, how are you?" Liam asked as he hung his coat up on the rack.

"Very well, thank you. I made sugar cookies if you to want any. They're on the stove." Mrs. Walsh gave a smile and walked back to the kitchen.

"Thanks mom." Sam sat on the couch as Liam sat next to her.

"So, how's your dad been doing?" Sam's dad has had lung cancer for half a year now and he's still in treatment.

"He's doing better. He's up and moving a little now. He actually mowed the lawn yesterday!" Sam said proudly.

"That's great! So, how long has he been home?" Liam curiously asked as Sam's mom came out with iced tea. "Oh, thank you," Liam said reaching to grab a glass.

"Um, has it been.. A week, mom?" She looked up at her mom.

"Yeah that sounds right. About a week." Her mom nodded.

"Yeah. About a week I guess," Sam said again lifting her glass up to her lip.

Liam tried his hardest not to stare into her eyes. It was hard for him. So, instead he concentrated on his hands.

"What's up?" Sam asked as she put her glass down.

"Oh, nothing. Just my hands ache from baseball today." Liam started rubbing his hands to make her more attracted.

"Oh, oh! My mom taught me a special hand massaging technique! Here, let me see a hand."

Just what Liam wanted.

Liam held out one of his hands. She started circular motions on his fingers. While she was looking down, Liam could look up at her. Her hair fell perfectly every time. Her nose was the perfect shape when she looked down. Her cheekbones struck out like pink cherries. Her lips looked soft and smooth and he just wanted his on hers more than anything. But he couldn't.

"Other hand," She said still looking down with her perfect hands out for his other hand.

Perfect, perfect, perfect.

Just as he was about to stick his right hand out, his phone buzzed.

"Sorry, my dad wants me home since it's almost 11." He looked depressed when he said this. He wanted more time.

"Just let me do the other hand first," Sam said, thinking that was the reason why he was sad. He smile and put out his other hand. Sam started massaging.
