Chapter 10

        After finishing my cake, I walked over to my dad, who had signaled me to come over there. I met him near the trash cans. "Hey Tobias. What do you need?" I ask with a hint of worry. "I was going to ask if I could walk you to your apartment." He states. I shake my head. "Sure, okay." I say and start walking to my room. He follows me like a lost puppy. When we near my apartment, I grabbed the key from it's hiding spot and insert it into the key hole. We enter to a huge mess, one that I did not create. "Who did this?!?" I screamed. I shook my head. "Both you and I know that only 4 people know where your key is Krissky." I looked at my dad and thought to myself "More like 5." Adding Alex. "Yea I know. You, me, Ashley, and..." I paused at his name, knowing who already did it. "Alec..." We say in sync. Alec was my ex-boyfriend who cheated on me and almost threw me off the Chasm. Luckly, my dad saved me from him and now he roams around moping, for at least one girl to notice him. I knew where he lived and I grabbed my jacket, knife, and ran out the door with Tobias running behind me.

        We run all the way to Alec's house, until we found him already dead in the hallway infront of his apartment. I was shocked. My dad knelt down near him and checked his pulse. He looked at me and shook his head. I looked at the ground. "This is all his own fault. He was probably drunk." I say with no emotion. "Yea, but we need to find out who did this." He says while getting up. "I know exactly where to go." I say and run down the hallway, towards the control room. I hear his footsteps behind me trying to catch up. I turn the corner to where the control room is and slow down. I walk in casually nodding to the other people in the room. I walk over to my spot and take the chair out from underneath my desk, and sit in it. I type in my password as my dad walks behind me. A few keystrokes later, I find the security footage from an hour ago and search through it until I find what I want. I find the camera in front of the hallway his room is on. I pause when I find Alec standing infront of his door, reaching in his pocket for his keys. When he brings his keys from his pocket, everything goes downhill. An Erudite Initiate runs down the hall and stabs him in the thigh and in the head and then in the chest. Alec didn't even know what hit him. After the attack, The Erudite boy runs up the stairs and runs out the door. I shake my head. "This calls for a faction meeting." My dad says behind me and helps me out of the chair. Even though I didn't care for Alec, I still cared about him. I slowly walk back to my apartment and slowly pick up the mess that Alec did before he died. When I walked over to my kitchen, I noticed a note on my counter. I picked up the blue note and opened it. It read "Meet me by the traintracks outside Erudite headquarters, tonight, at Midnight. Don't be late." I read it a couple times and was a little curious. After what Alex told me about Erudite, I didn't know if I should go. But it's not like I couldn't defend myself. I looked at the clock and noticed that it was 11:15 PM. I shook my head. I couldn't believe what I was about to do.
