"Happy birthday to you..." I heard my dads start singing in the hallway. I sat up in bed, grinning as their voices got closer. My door swung open, and the two of them entered my room, carrying a plate of Nutella pancakes with a candle sticking out of the top of the stack. They finished the song and sat down on the edge of my bed, holding out the plate. I shut my eyes and blew, making my wish as the flame turned to smoke. "Happy birthday Ita," Papa spoke, kissing my forehead. Dad did the same, but also offered me a fork and knife to eat my pancakes with. I gratefully took them and chowed down, the sweet food coating my throat with sugar.
"You're 17 now, you're getting so old! I'm getting so old!" Papa began getting sentimental, just like he has on my birthday every year for the last eleven years. "I remember when you were bo-" (Does anyone recognize the first section of this?)
"Not again!" I giggled, shaking my head.
Papa and Dad laugh and leave my room, letting me eat in peace. Lianna and Fiona had both sent me birthday texts, and my social media was blowing up. But nothing from Cameron. Thinking none of it, I go onto Twitter and say thank you for all the birthday messages. I love seeing all the fan art and the short stories that people make for me. It makes me feel important to people. Like they really value what I do. I love knowing that what I do makes a difference.
After finishing my pancakes, I got up and cleaned up after my breakfast, rubbing sleepiness out of my eyes. "I'm gonna take a shower!" I call out, to a possibly empty apartment. I connect my phone to my speaker and play some music, turning on the water. Deeming it hot enough, I strip and get into the shower, humming along.
"Mind if I join?" I hear a familiar voice. I giggle and agree, seeing the love of my life step in. He has a big grin on his face as he pecks my lips. "Happy birthday, my love."
"How'd you get in?"
"Your dads made me a key a few weeks ago." He explains, his hands holding my hips. "You're looking good love, have you started working out again?" I nod and giggle. I've finally gotten the energy back that it takes me to work out, so I've finally lost most of my baby weight. "Just know I love you no matter what you look like." He says, kissing my forehead. Letting go of my hips, he takes my shampoo and squirts some into his hands. He rubs his hands together before massaging it into my hair. I giggle and let him do this, grabbing his shampoo (He's started leaving things here because of how often he sleeps over) and doing the same to him.
We showered in peace, helping each other. Some people say that intimacy is all about sex and stuff like that. To me, being intimate is all about just being there for the other person. I love just simple things like this. Or cuddling watching a movie, or giving each other back rubs.
When we got out, Cam wrapped a towel around his waist. He then held out a fluffy towel and wrapped me in it. He took another towel and dried my hair off, kissing me while he did it. After hanging the towel he used to dry my hair, he took my hand and led me to my room. Cameron rummaged through my drawers, pulling out clothing items for the two of us to wear. He helped me put them on, and I giggled as he realized that he pulled out two pairs of bottoms for me by accident. Eventually, though, the two of us got dressed.

"Happy birthday," Cameron whispers, brushing my hair out. I'm sat on the floor and he's on the couch, taking time to be careful of my curls.
"Thank you, Cameron." I smile, taking a picture. Once he finishes, he does his best attempt at braiding it, which isn't too awful. While it's sloppy, all of my hair is pulled back, and you can actually tell that it's supposed to be a braid. Cameron leans over for a Spider-Man kiss, which makes me giggle and take more pictures.
"Hmm, you like that?" Cameron laughs and kisses my forehead. I nod to him, biting my lip. "Note to self, more upside down kisses for the love of my life."
"Please, I love them. Also when you nibble my lip." I remind him.
"I have a present for you." He smiles, doing something on his phone quickly. I look at him confuse and he gestures to the front door of our apartment. I look confused as I get up and walk to it, nervous about what he got me. Opening the door, all I saw was a box with holes in it.
"Cameron, what is this?" He just tells me to open the box, so I do. Bright blue eyes look up at me, and I hear a little bark. "Oh my fucking god." I pick up the little puppy and cradle them in my arms. Arms wrap around my waist and a chin rests on my shoulder.
"Happy 17th birthday Butterscotch. I hope you like her." I tell him that I do. "She's a Chow Chow and Corgi mix." She licks my chin which causes me to giggle.
"I want to call her Daisy. She looks like a Daisy to me."
"So Daisy it is." Cameron kisses my cheek. He pets her head and grabs the box from the doorway, heading back into the apartment. I follow him in and sit on the couch, setting Daisy on my lap. Cam sits next to me and wraps an arm around me, letting my head sit on his shoulder.
"This has been a really great birthday, thank you, Cameron."
"It's been one year since we met too." He adds in.
"Oh my goodness, I totally forgot! Happy anniversary."
"Happy anniversary, Butterscotch."
Best birthday ever. I have my man, I have the best friends, I have an amazing family, and now I have an adorable puppy. What could be better?
