Chapter 1

I dedicate this chapter to belowzero0 for supporting The Trigger World series!!!

*****

I was walking home late at night, just getting off my waitressing job at the local dinner. Where they serve for every race, strong stomachs are needed for this job. Just saying. As I was walking out of the brand new looking part of the city, and into the 'ruins' or crumbling part of the city, I hurried my pace, not liking the idea of being out so late. I could feel eyes on me as I walk, and I didn't like it. Thing's really do go bump in the night, and they're hungry.

As I reached area of houses that us Misfits live in, I still kept my pace fast. I knew not to run, because that's when creatures chase. The only light I had to lead the way was the moon. A cold wind blew making me hug my skinny arms tighter around myself. I pasted houses that were to ruined to live in, or were falling apart. They look haunted in the moon light. Casting long shadows over the rubble street. We know not to go near those houses at night, even in the daytime we hurry past them, so we don't attract unwanted attention to ourselves.

When I was nearing my house, I started to relax a little. We all called it the Misfit pit. Mostly because out of all the houses ours was the one that was the most falling apart. But it's still better than other houses. I walk up the stone path with weeds and grass poking out. Lights were on in the house. Well most of the light were candles. We only use lights when we have to.

I sigh, at one time this house could've been elegant or beautiful even, now it's just sad looking. And soon it will be one of the houses we hurry past during the day. It was a two story house but it was big, and it looks a bit older than the normal houses around here would. Like almost from a different era. Who am I kidding all of the houses around here are from a different time, a different era. A time where nobody had to worry about leeches attacking you in the middle of the night. A time where only the Nats get everything and the Misfits nothing. A time from way before all of the wars started with the Nats but it was now falling apart and taking its history with it. And its secrets. Eyebrow wiggle, eyebrow wiggle.

I walk up the rotted deck and open the front door, which was also rotted. Pretty much everything in this house is rotted or moldy. As soon as I shut the door I was attacked by my family. Well, not my blood family, but to me they are my family, no matter what. That's how it is when you're a Misfit. You don't have a blood family, and if you do, you're lucky as hell. So you make a family with the people we live with, and that's as good as it's going to get.

"Where the hell have you been?" Derek was the first to shout after everyone pulled away. Now for most Derek may look scary 6'1ft tall, bright emerald green eyes, raven hair that looks blue under some light, muscular. But to me I know he's just being an overprotective big brother, that has the biggest soft side you'll ever see. Well to us at least, and to all of the other Misfits. He never shows his soft side to anyone else. He thinks it makes him look weak.

"Ya, we were worried sick! We thought something might have happened to you, you idiot!" Lily told me, as she smacked my arm. She was looking me right in the eyes. Now Lily may not look intimidating with her blond hair, and baby blue eyes, and 5'4ft tall, and freckles covering her face, but get her mad and she is the scariest person alive. Trust me I should know. Out of everyone in the this house, I piss her off the most. Derek is close second, and depending on the day, they can be tied.

"Ya, we didn't know what happened to you, and we got scared." I look down to see Ariella, Arie, or Ellie for short clutching my leg. For a five year old, she sure does have a strong grip. Her brown hair was going wild, as usual, but her big innocent brown eye held concern in them.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you guys, but I usually don't get home until this late anyways. So why is there a huge deal over it now?" I ask everyone. I mean, they usually don't like how late I get off, so I have to walk home in the dark. But they never flip this much shit over it. I wonder what happened?

"Because there have been more attacks in this area lately than usual, the group over from us has a person missing. We just got worried about you, that's all." Derek explained, his green eyes going soft.

I nodded my head. "Look I'm really tired so I'm going to go to bed. Sorry for scaring you all." I told everyone. I hug Arie, before I make my way to up the rotting stairs, surprise, surprise. Everyone said night and went to do what they did at this time of night. I think they would sleep, but sometimes you never know with these people. Especially Arie. I love her, but she has her weird moments.

I went into my room, grabbed my pjs, then headed to the bathroom. The Government tries to make sure that the water is safe for the Misfits, aka humans living in these old houses. Don't get me wrong there are some half-mixs, or hybrids living around here, but not many. They tend to stick together, just like the Misfits stick together, and just like the Nats stick together.

In this world, you stick with your race. Just like how it has always been, but now the humans know about the monsters hiding in the shadows. We know what truly goes bump in the night.

I look in the mirror and just stare at my reflection, hoping that it might change if I stared long enough. It didn't. My brown eyes look tired, drained almost. The dark circles don't help either. My long brown hair that goes down to my waist is frizzy, and wavy, and just looks bad. I am 5'6ft, second tallest in the house, the thought makes me happy. Everything in this house gets turned into a competition. Everything. It doesn't matter what it is. Eating the slowest, the fastest, how many scares we have. It can get so bad that sometimes, we don't even speak to each other until things cool down.

I turn on the shower to hot water, hoping to relax my muscles, only to no avail. The hot water soon, turns cold. I get out ten minutes later clean, but with sore muscles still. I head to my room and throw my clothes in the dresser drawer that is opened, then I go to my mattress which is pushed up against the window wall, I shake out my blankets and pillows to make sure no bugs or anything has made a nest. It has happened. I then climb in and fall asleep, as soon as my head hits the pillow.
