Two years later.
Finally, I was out of prison. The past two years have been even worse than high school. Turns out being in prison isn't as fun as it is in Orange Is The New Black.
I stood in front of the prison with my suitcase in my hands and my backpack on my back, looking around.
What was I going to do? I didn't have a home. I didn't have friends to go to. My parents probably hated me.
I sighed. How did my life become this fucked up? I guess it was all my own fault. Until this day I still regret joining in to rob a bank.
Should I try to contact Brian, Alex or Justin? I didn't know what happened to them after I got put into prison.
If I had told the police who the other robbers were they would probably have let me go faster that two years but I didn't want to lose my friends. They were the only people I really had.
I knew the way to my parents' house from here. When I was younger my dad sometimes had to pick me up from school and he always told me about the people they arrested that day. We used to ride by the prison and he used to scare me, telling me to never do something bad. He was a cop after all and I didn't really listen to him.
Kind of funny that the daughter of a cop was in prison for two years for robbing a bank.
I decided to see if my parents still wanted me in their house so I started walking in the direction of my old house.
As I was walking, I saw an old lady try to cross the street. The cars weren't stopping.
I sighed, walking over to her.
"I'll help you ma'am." I politely said. I softly grabbed her arm and stepped onto the street with her. Soon, we were on the other side of the street.
That's when the lady looked up at me for the first time. I saw the shock and the fear in her eyes. She mumbled something and hastily walked away without saying anything. I guess she had seen my face in the newspapers.
I heard a few whispers and laughs behind me. When I turned around I saw three girls looking at me. There was a fourth one standing behind them who didn't seem interested at all.
"Look at her. How could she be back on the streets in two years. Such a loser." I heard one girl whisper.
I looked down as tears were about to spill. Quickly turning around, I started walking away, leaving all the whispers and laughs behind me.
I heard soft footsteps behind me and then there was a hand on my shoulder. My head snapped to the person and I slapped the hand of my shoulder.
The girl that was standing behind the three other girls nervously smiled at me.
"I'm sorry about those morons. They don't mean what they say. Don't listen to them." she said when she saw the tears in my eyes. "It doesn't matter if you've been in prison for two years or you've robbed a back. You look like a really friendly person. I saw you help the lady cross the street."
"Ha, thanks. I...uh. I have to go now." I mumbled, not being used to human interaction after two years of being yelled at and beaten up. I turned back into the direction of my parents' house and started walking before the girl could say anything.
"Wait!"
I turned back around.
"Can I maybe have your phone number? You don't have to give it to me. I just..." the girl asked, nervously fiddling with her hands and looking at the ground. I took this as an opportunity to take a good look at her. Not to check her out or anything. She had long black hair and bright blue eyes. She was dressed in all black just like me. She looked really friendly.
"Uh...I don't have a phone yet. They took it away from me in prison and they didn't give it back. Sorry."
"Oh okay. Can I at least give you my phone number? I want to keep contact with you."
"Uh yeah, okay." I said. I didn't understand why she even wanted to keep contact with me. What the hell.
The girl quickly took off her backpack, pulling out a pen and grabbing my arm, tugging it to her. She wrote her number on my hand and smiled while she put away her pen.
"My name is Blair by the way."
"Lyndsey but you can call me Lynn."
"Okay, I'll see you around Lyndsey." she shot me a smile as she walked back to her asshole friends who immediately started yelling at her for talking to me.
She smiled one last time and gave me a wave as she walked away with her 'friends' after flipping them off.
I already hated it when she called me 'Lyndsey'.
