Lanterns

I look back into the room before I would leave and possibly never see it again.

"You okay honey" Kat says

"Uh um yeah" I say looking away so she can't see my tears.

"No your not honey. Tell me what wrong" she says sitting me down on the bed

I look into her eyes and break down. She holds me in her arms and coo's into my ear.

"It's going to be alright. Everything is going to be alright sweety" she says to me. I hug her tightly.

I've missed her so much.

I sit back up and wipe my tears from under my eyes

"You know what I used to say to my daughter. Everyday is a new beginning and every day you have a chance to change your life for the better. Each sunrise is like the the start of a new chapter to this book called life. The question is are you brave enough to flip to the next page. Are you willing to watch another sunrise" she say to me softly

*flashback*

"I DONT CARE! U haven't bothered to call or text. Your a fuckin douchbag Jake, just leave! We're over" my mother explodes at her boyfriend

She just found out he has a wife and she had to find out by seeing them all in the supermarket. He has two daughters.

He raises his hand and brings it down on my moms face. I quickly run out of my bedroom to go help her.

"Get out" I yell at him.

"Don't tell me what to do you spoiled little fuckin bitch" he says throwing me down and kicking me in the stomach.

He continued to kick me but honestly I was used to it. My mom had so many guys over that not all of them liked me so much.

He took out his belt and he started to hit me with it. I scream in pain.My mother grabs him by the shoulders and shoves him towards the door.

He storms out of the house and I run into my room. I hide under the covers and cry. I hear the door open softly and my mom sit on the bed.

"You okay hunny."

I don't speak. It's her fault this happens. She doesn't know half of the things the men have done to me.

"Tomorrow is a new sunrise baby. Now hush and go to sleep. Tomorrow a new chapter awaits you. Can you flip the page honey?" She asks me softly, wiping my tears

I sniffled and nodded yes.

*Now*

"I'll give you a minute. If you ever need to talk to anyone, I'm here." She says before she leaves me alone in the silence.

She is better without me. She's the same mom but safer. She's not running around with guys and she genuinely seems happy.

She's happy without me.

Tears fall down my face.

I get up and wipe the tears on my face looking into the mirror.

I head towards the door and start to walk outside. I'm stopped when I see someone facing me.

"Hi Jackson" I say with a smile.

He doesn't say anything other then giving me a disappointing and sad look.

"Look Jackson I'm so-" I start before he cut me off

"Save your lame ass apology ." He says before trying to walk away.

"Jackson I'm sorry. I just couldn't anymore" I say

"And I could? You left me alone. I trusted you" he says to me angry
