The recipe book laid open on the kitchen counter as Mum searched the cabinets for all the ingredients she needed. I stood watching her with my arms perched on the island, available for whatever assistance she needed. My phone then beeped in my hands and I stared down at it.
My lover
My heart first of all swelled on seeing the name, and then I read his text.
Meet me at the park, and bring Morphy along. XOXO!
My lips spread out in a wide smile. I then looked up at Mum. Her hands were searching one of the cabinets. Then slowly, I drifted backwards, my eyes fixated on her back and, the moment I reached the door, I turned around and scurried away.
Morphy stood on the center table in the living room, barking at the TV. I looked to see what the little guy was watching. Dogs 101. I shook my head with a laugh. I then remembered I had to leave the house with Morphy before Mum noticed my absence. So I immediately grabbed him off the table and made my way out.
"Nadine!"
Mum's deafening scream trailed behind me after I exited the house.
"Sorry, Mummy..." I muttered with a cringed face as I hurried to my car. I threw Morphy in the backseat, and then I rushed to the driver's side. I got in, shut the car door and drove out.
With four wheels that ran faster than two legs, I arrived in no time. No doubt I still had my fitness motivation in me, but I was certain I read ASAP in his text. Plus, I couldn't let myself die of curiosity.
The park had a bubbly feel like every other Friday evening when more people came out to chill; giving meaning to TGIF.
I parked my car beside the wide entrance of the green environment, realising it was the only vehicle in the surrounding. Apparently, normal people walk to the park.
I climbed down, picked up Morphy and held him in my arms, and then I started heading towards the entrance of the park, passing the vendors who sold both the necessary and unimaginable.
The park was filled with chatty people in pairs of twos and even more; some were standing, some were sprawled out on mats, and some were seated on the built-in sittings with drinks on their table. My feet led me to the spot where I was certain to meet him. But the closer I got, the bigger the doubt of his presence grew, until I was totally convinced.
I stared at the empty chair in disappointment. Then my eyes darted around the park in search of him, only to feel more disappointed, and in addition to that, embarrassed and upset. If this was his second plot of a meet-my-dad scheme, I was prepared to send him on a trip to visit his ancestors.
I started walking farther away from the spot, looking everywhere and hoping to find him somewhere, and then out of no where, Smart came jogging towards my direction, holding two roses in his mouth; a white rose, and a red rose. My cheeks burned from the smile I couldn't contain as I wondered where William could be.
I put Morphy on the floor when Smart met us. He then perched his butt on the green grass, waiting for me to take the roses that hung horizontally in his closed mouth. I held the stem of the beautiful roses while I ruffled the soft fur around his neck with a giddy smile, and he let go.
"Thanks, Smarty," I cooed.
I watched the two cuties, or rather siblings, play together.
"You like them?" I heard a familiar voice ask behind me.
I waited a moment to let the blush on my face disappear before I turned around. But it came rushing back on seeing the face of the guy who had captured my heart.
