A Final Goodbye

"Where are they?" Klaus bellows, we stand next to his luggage filled car. Finn waits inside it. I check my watch again, 7 pm, sun-down. Hayley and Elijah should've been back with Hope an hour ago. Klaus slams his hand down on his Chevy. It leaves a dent.

"Hey," I touch his shoulder. "They'll be back." He nods and dials Elijah's number again.

...

I feel my pocket vibrate. Niklaus, yet again. I look at Hayley, and then to Katerina. We sit in a small booth at an offroad cafe. Hope sits on Hayley's lap playing with the napkins. "Katerina I would say it was nice to see you again, but I am trying to be a good role model in front of Hope, and lying just isn't the way to go." She scowls at me.

"Firstly it's Katherine, Katerina was a long time ago. Secondly trust me, the feelings mutual." Hayley stands up abruptly.

"Okay well Katherine, we are going to leave now." She holds out her hand, I grasp it and we walk out. I look at Hayley but she won't look at me.

"What is it, Hayley?" She stops and faces me.

"What happened between you two?" I see a vein on her neck rise.

"It was centuries ago, a petty feud between Niklaus and I."

"Klaus wanted to kill Katherine." I sigh.

"That was after he realised Katerina was the key to breaking his curse."

"Okay," She pauses. "Tell me the truth Elijah, you have been with Katherine more recently than the 1500's." I sigh, a long loud one.

"Four years ago we had a 'fling' but I ended it."

"Why?" She persists.

"Because Katerina had not been honest with me, she had killed Elena's only family then proceeded to snap Elena's own neck!" Hayley raises her hand in submission. We stand there for awhile, on the gravel parking lot, standing outside my car.

...

"Klaus!" I yell headlights pulled into our driveway. Whoosh

"Finally," he breathes down my neck. The car pulls up outside us and Elijah and Hayley get out. Hayley reaches into the back seat and pulls Hope out. "Where the bloody hell has you lot been?!" Klaus yells.

"Catching up with an old friend of ours Niklaus." Klaus glowers.

"Well come on then let us be off."

"Don't you want to know who it is Niklaus?" Klaus sighs and faces Elijah.

"Who?" Elijah smiles.

"Katerina Petrova." Klaus sputters.

"And what exactly did she want." Elijah stares at me. Klaus' eyes follow his and look at me. Soon I have three pairs of eyes all gawking at me. "I see... well feel free to inform me in more private conditions. Klaus opens the passenger seat door and I hop in. Thankful to get away from the eyes. But confused, and annoyed. Am I not allowed to be part of the conversation?

We follow Elijah's car out of the driveway. I look back at the manor. One last look before it is swallowed up by trees.
