Birthday Excuses Pt. 2

Keith pulled away from Veronica and let her go. She held her smirk as Keith gave her an unbelievable stare.

"What?!" he hissed.

She laughed and wrapped her around his shoulder.

"Baby, I see the way you look at him. You act like you hate him, but you are so in love with him!" she whispered, leading Keith away from the dance floor.

Keith shrugged her off him and huffed.

"I am sooo not in love with Lance, Veronica. He is annoying and- and..." 

His words suddenly seemed to fail. He felt dumbfounded. Keith realized his views on his roommate had changed drastically; he couldnt find a reason to truly hate him.

Veronica smirked, her point had been justified.  She bit her lip, a question just aching to spill out.

Keith noticed and sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. 

"Oh my god, what?" he huffed.

"So like, do you have a soulmate? Is that why you refuse to admit you love him?"

Keith caught his breath. His eyes shifted to where Lance still stood with Allura. She giggled at whatever stupid, corny, joke that had tumbled out of his mouth. He sighed and looked back at Veronica.

"Lance. Lance is my soulmate..." he admited, finally learning to completely accept that fact.

Veronicas jaw hinged open. She turned her head in Lances direction, then back at Keith.

"You're kidding."

He shook his head whistfully.

"Oh my god thats great! Does he know? Are you two like an item but hiding it?" she quizzed.

"No! Of course not! He doesnt have a clue, hes still searching for his soulmate!"

Veronicas face faultered and changed to the signature 'you are such a dumbass' McClain look. She facepalmed and groaned.

"Maybe he'll stop looking if you tell him!" she pointed out.

"Maybe I dont want to tell him!" Keith argued.

"Why the hell not?!"

"Because- because he may be my soulmate but i might not be his!" he blurted out.

Veronica sighed.

"Explain to me in the water, you are one huge ball of stress." she sighed, once again dragging Keith around and to the beach. 

Keith stripped off his shirt while Veronica took off the mesh dress she had over her bathing suit. They stepped into the water and sat in the shallow end, allowing the waves to tickle there feet. Veronica took in a deep breath and let it go.

"Now you can explain. What makes you think You're not Lances soulmate?"

Keith sighed.

"When I was little, my mom... Left. My dad always just told me she went on a very long vacation. I was a smart kid, I knew no one went on vacation for a year. So then my dad finally told me," Keith bit his lip "He told me that my mothers name glowed for him, but his name didnt glow for her. She left because they werent meant to be."

"So.. You think that this may be the case for you and Lance?"

"I- no... Maybe. I mean, I dont think I would ever be able to date or stay with anyone. Im not the open type. But finding my soulmate was definetly on my bucket list and I cant say im not satisfied with what I found but.. Lance isnt looking for someone like me. Hes flirted with everyone, except me...." Keith paused "Except for that one that he was mega drunk and told me he would date me but he had no idea what he was saying."
