"Veronica?!" The harsh voice raises me from sleep, the banging on my door jolts me into wakefulness and I sit up with a start.

"I'm up" I gasp as my stomach muscles protest the swift change in position.

"No, you're late, ten minutes and I'm leaving without you" Tink calls through my bedroom door.
"Ten minutes?" I mumble to myself knowing she's no longer there as she bangs around in the kitchen loud enough to wake the beasts of hell.

My phone tells me it's half past six, she's right, I'm late.

This won't help my I'm still fit for work argument, crap!

I throw on my new white dress from yesterday that still sits on my chair and bend forward to flip my head upside down in an effort to contain my wild bed hair into a messy bun, I add a flower comb to add some illusion of style and spritz rosewater onto my face for a dewy glow. Mascara and clear gloss and I'm done, I can feed Meatball at the shop.

"You really shouldn't drink on a work night" I grumble taking my rushed morning out on Tink.
"Yeah sure, what's your excuse?" She scoffs back at me jumping into a pencil pleat skirt with her blouse still undone.
"Ah.... creating human life?" I shake my head with exasperation.

"Fuck I hate Monday's" Tink groans as I slide my feet into my Birkenstock sandals.
"Just go kiss your woman and lets go already" I order keeping Meatball to my chest.

I grab two oatmeal cookies and my purse and let Tink catch up as I head for the car, Meatball wriggles and squirms knowing he's not strapped into his usual harness and tries to steal the cookies for his own breakfast.
I manage to keep him under control till I get him into his carrier in the backseat.

"One of those better be for me" Tink says suddenly behind me and takes a cookie and the keys to my SUV before I get my fat ass into the drivers seat.
"It was actually" I sigh and rub the arch of my back as I move to the passenger side.

Tink never lets me drive, there's still plenty of room behind the wheel and it's not like I'm some incapable invalid all of the sudden but I'm sick of arguing over it, I hate parking anyway.

"So it's not like you to sleep in.... or sleep" Tink comments now we're on our way and on the road.
"Just tired I guess" I shrug watching the road ahead.
"You were awake all night" she accuses.

"No, really I wasn't. I think I slept for like ten hours, I was in bed early"
"Nightmares?" She looks over at me sympathetically.
"Probably, but none I remember. Did you roofie me before you left?" I frown thinking about the herbal tea she made me.

"If I thought I could get away with it I would, you don't sleep enough" she laughs.
"That wasn't exactly a denial" I grumble uncomforted by her grin.
"No, it wasn't" she teases. "But I didn't"

"I guess the day just got the better of me, shopping.... who knew?" I shrug.
"You didn't get near enough, are you really going to see his mother?" Tink asks.

"No... she'd be on the phone to Alexander before I even got to my car"
"Is that a bad thing? At least he'd know"

"I want him to know.... I just don't want to tell him. He's going to be so mad at me"

The thought makes me grimace and hold my belly, I know he didn't want this.

"Fuck him" Tink scoffs.
"Yeah, sure" I roll my eyes.

"So, we're going to be hearing about this all day.... at least" Tink groans seeing the displays out front and the open sign on the door of my little flower shop.
"Oh yeah, can't wait" I groan too.
