Emily and I spent the afternoon together, watching Disney movies, things like that, until it was dinner time.
"I was thinking we might go out to eat tonight, what do you think?" I asked Emily, and she nodded eagerly. "Yeah! Sounds good, Dad."
I looked through my wallet to see what money I had, and found a gift card for a restaurant that Y/n and I were supposed to go to. I got it for my birthday this year. But we haven't used it, and it goes out at the end of the year so I may as well use it, because I don't know if I can keep it until Y/n and I go out again because I don't know when that'll be.
"Em I have a gift card for a restaurant that was supposed to be for your mom and I, but it goes out of date soon and I kind of want to use it, so how about we go there? It's kind of fancy though, that's the only thing." I said. "Okay, well if you don't mind me replacing mom." Emily shrugged. "Hey, you will never be a replacement for your mother, okay? I want to use this to have dinner with my daughter." I said, putting her face in my hands. "Okay." She smiled. "Okay, go put on a pretty dress." I kissed her forehead and she ran upstairs, and I heard her shower turn on so I guess she's having a shower too. I'll have one too, I haven't had one in a couple days.
I went upstairs and set out my clothes, and then turned on the shower and got in. I washed myself and stepped out again, turning it off. I rubbed my hair quickly with a towel after wrapping another one around my waist. I went into the bedroom, dressing myself and then drying my hair quickly, grooming it the way I wanted it and then gathering my phone and stuff. I passed by Emily's room, knocking on it softly, and her little voice rang out. "Come in." She said. I pushed the door open. She was dressed, it seemed that she just needed to do her hair. "Wow, Dad, you look great!" She smiled, looking over, from doing her hair. "Thank you, honey. You look beautiful. I'm just checking on you." I said. "Aw thanks Dad. Yeah, I'm nearly done. I just have to throw on my shoes after I finish my hair." She replied.
"Okay, I'll be downstairs." I went downstairs and started to get ready to leave, turning off the tv and such.
Emily came down moments later, and she looks lovely. "You look very nice, sweetheart. Are you ready to go?" I asked. "Yup." She nodded, and we locked up the house, and then went to the car.
We arrived at the restaurant and we were brought to a seat by one of the waiters. "I'll be back soon to take your orders." He smiled, and I smiled back. "Great, thank you." We looked at our menus, figured out what we wanted to eat and then ordered it.
When the food came, Emily and I chatted about certain things, school, even boys. It was nice to chat to her about things, and even nice to know that she was comfortable to talk to me about things like that.
When dinner was over, I paid using the gift card and then we went back to the car, driving home.
When we got home, Emily changed into her pajamas and came back downstairs, to where I was sitting on the sofa, going through twitter to talk to fans. Yes, we're still in the band. We haven't stopped. Emily sat beside me and lay her head on my shoulder. "Hey princess. You okay?" I asked, and she was oddly quiet.
"What's gonna happen when you go on tour? Am I gonna have to fend for myself?" I put my phone down, looking at her. "No, sweetheart. We're taking a year off, to rest and work on new stuff. We haven't done that since our third album." I explained to her. "But I will not be leaving anytime soon. I will not leave you at a time like this." I promised. "Okay." She nodded, and I pulled my daughter closer to me.
"This might be a weird question, but can we dance?" She asked out of the blue. "I mean dance, like I stand on you and we dance." She said, sitting up, an adorable smile on her face. "Really?" I whined, "Yes c'mon Dad it'll be fun." She whined back, pulling my arm.
We stood up and she took my hands. She put on a dancing song, which happened to be Lost In Stereo by All Time Low, and she definitely got her great taste in music from me.
I smiled as she jumped up and down, twirling me and I twirled her. Then I picked her up and spun her around. She laughed, and I think it was the first time the two of us genuinely laughed in a while. Her laugh is just like Y/n's. Her entire face lights up and it's just a beautiful thing to see.
We calmed down a little bit after the song ended and then a slow song came on. "Stand on my toes Emily." I said. "You're not serious?!" She asked, a shocked look on her face. "I am come on. It'll be just like when you were little." I said, beckoning her over to me. "Yeah but I'm 17." She said. "I'm a little heavier now than I was when I was four." She chuckled. "You're fine. Come here." I said and she walked over, and I took her hands, letting her stand on the tips of my feet. It wasn't that bad.
I held her right hand, holding it out, and the other secure around her, so she wouldn't fall. She put her left hand on my shoulder. She's not as tall as me, she's kind of in the middle.
The more I dance with my daughter, the more I miss my wife. Emily become more like her mother everyday. I sniffed and Emily is like a hawk when it comes to sensing things, she knew I was upset. I hate crying in front of her though. She stepped down from my feet and just wrapped her arms around me, and I did the same. "We'll get her back, Dad. If it's the last thing I do." She said. She's so strong. Way stronger than me.
I hugged tighter, just wanting to be comforted and Emily did so. She didn't let go until she knew her dad was okay. Which, is something you don't see a lot of 17 year olds do. But Emily is not like most 17 year olds. And I am grateful. She has become a beautiful young woman.
