(Taemin)

I woke up from a nice comfy sleep and got up to get ready, I am so nervous but I am glad in a way. I walk to my closet, grab my yellow shirt and red pants and put on my shoes tying my shoe laces on properly. I walked into my bathroom and combed my dyed light as brown/blonde hair and washed my face so I didn’t look indecent. I heard a knocking on the door.

“Son, can I come in?” I heard mother call out.

“You may mother,” I reply walking out of the bathroom and my mother was on the verge of tears. She gets so emotional I tell you.  

“Oh son you are growing up and into a fine young man, now are you nervous for your test?” she asked me messing with my hair, I let her because there is no point in fighting, it is against our beliefs.

“Aw mother it is just a test, don’t need to get worked up about it. I will do the test then come home with my lips sealed, not allowed to tell anyone,” I smiled and she laughed a little. We both walked out of the house and I waved goodbye to my mother and walked towards the area where we had to do our aptitude test to choose what faction we could be in.

“TAEMIN!” I heard my friend Kai shout at me. He ran next to me to catch up and we carried on walking. Kai well Jongin is my best friend, even though he is in a different faction which is called Abnegation who are selfless people but Jongin is different though. “So Taemin ready for it?”

“Oh yes of course I am! I am going to do my best and if necessary use violence to save myself,” I fist pumped in the air.

“You know if your mother or faction heard you say that, you’d be in trouble. Amity don’t do violence,” he teased me and I playfully pushed him away. Yeah I am different from my faction, I like peace but I hate it as well, a love hate relationship. But I also like dauntless in my opinion. They have inspired me ever since I was young in the streets playing and saw them running a group, climbing up things and jumping into trains, they are so awesome.

“Taemin… hey Taemin!” my mind came back into reality and Jongin was calling my name, whoops. “Stop day dreaming I am trying to tell you something I heard from my family. Someone in my faction called Minho was beaten up by his father and that is the reason why he left for dauntless, his father Yun-kyum apparently disagrees with it but it’s just rumors is all. Hey here we are, good luck!” Kai waved goodbye and ran inside to get registered. I walked inside and did the same walking to a room where a chair was there and needles… I hate them so much.

“Oh Lee Taemin come sit down on the chair for me. Good boy now I am going to give you this drink and you need to drink it honey,” she gave me a vile of bluish liquid. I gulped nervously, my throat dry.

“Why do I need to?” I wondered looking at the liquid nervously.

“Don’t ask, do it,” she demands and I quickly drink it and lay down, I felt tired and closed my eyes. I opened them both again and I was in some different room with mirrors everywhere I look, I see many views of myself and I touch it to see if anything happened, nothing did.

“Choose,” a voice called to me. I quickly looked around and I saw no one but a table with a basket full of cheese or a basket with a knife and a long one at that.

“Why?” I asked confused.

“Choose!” she repeats again more forcefully this time round. I look around again but no one was there again, I looked to the baskets again and I couldn’t help but ask the same question twice.

“Why do I need to?” I asked again, I knew I shouldn’t have but I couldn’t help myself.

“Choose!” she yelled at me but that doesn’t affect me and I am just bored as hell. I looked away not caring for any of them. “Fine have it your way then,” she stops talking and a I hear a creek like a door is being opened. There I thought it was the woman but no it was a dog, the dog was a few feet away from me and it went low growling at me. Oh shit now I know what the cheese and the knife was for, damn it Taemin!

Okay think now Taemin, no more mistakes. Running could do it but… it will be faster than I could ever run. Wrestling would as well be unsuitable for me as I don’t or have never done gym in my life… maybe I should of went with Kai when he asked me to. The dog was snarling at me now and this meant I had not much time left to think.

My biology book I read just last week showed me dogs can smell fear because we humans create some chemical secreted by human glands. I can’t run or fight it… okay don’t look into it’s eyes because it shows aggression, what is a way of submission? Oh right I remember now!

I lay onto my stomach and placed my elbows on the floor. This causes the dog to come closer and in front of my face, I don’t look to its eyes but after a few seconds it starts licking my cheek. I giggle going to my knees and ruffling its hair.

“Aw you are so cute! Yes you are!” I cooed and the dog ruffles its tail. Walking around the dog smelt something because it became riled up and all I could think of doing was to jump on it and wrap my arms around its neck to stop the dog from what it was doing. “Shh it’s okay,” I tried to calm it down but then everything disappeared and I was in my chair in the testing room again. Was that it? The lady stands up slightly clumsy though.

“Well that was… interesting…” she spoke carefully. Interesting? “I’ll be back.” She walks out and I get up from my chair. She came back with my results.

“So?” I asked a little too excited.

“Well you are defiantly can be amity because of the kindness you brought to the dog that’s for sure. You running or the knife would suggest dauntless but you did none of them. Your intelligence knowing the dog instincts shouts erudite. I don’t really know your actually one though but,”

“Wait so you don’t know?” I asked her confused.

“Well all I can say is you could be Amity, Dauntless or Erudite. People with these results are usually called divergent.” What is a divergent? “Taemin honey under no circumstances are you to tell anyone about this okay!” she gave me a worried look.

“We aren’t meant to tell though anyways,” I spill out.

“Well I suggest you go home now, say you’re sick or something and I let you out ok? Now go,” she rushes me to the door and I leave taking the early bus home. I open the front door and my mother was there clearly shocked.

“Why are you here so early?” she wondered taking a sip of her tea.

“Oh I was sick maybe the drink she gave me and was told to go home is all,” I answered well lied to her, I never have though in my life.

“Well get some sleep and be ready for the ceremony tomorrow, sleep tight,” she kissed my forehead and I waved goodbye and fell asleep, divergent what is that?
