chapter 2

(Taemin)

“Taemin brother you need to get ready, it’s time for our choosing ceremony,” I felt someone poke my cheek and I flick it away. “Taemin you know we have to go.” I opened my eyes annoyed to see my brother trying to wake me up, well he knows I hate getting out of bed. 

“Five more minutes,” I moaned covering myself under the covers.

“You only have five minutes until we leave so see you later,” my brother Jinki leaves and I quickly shoot from my bed and get changed and brush my hair to look presentable. Okay Taemin you can do this, I know you can. Running out of my room my mother, my brother and my cousin Sunny start walking out and towards the arena where they would have our futures chosen for us. 

“Taemin you ready?” I jumped up but looked behind me to see Kai smiling and looked excited. 

“Yes I am but am nervous,” I admitted shamefully, I don’t want my decision to affect my family in anyway. They want me to stay in amity but I actually don’t think I can do that. 

(Arena)

We walked inside and I see five different sections. Every section is for different factions. The place was full with families and their children about to be initiated like myself. I observe Dauntless the group I was inspired when I was a little boy and stared in awe. They are still so awesome all these years. 

“Taemin darling good luck,” my mother hugged me and kissed my forehead with a tear in her eye. I hugged back and smiled while doing so. “You too Jinki, and Sunny as well, tell your father and mother to find me if you see them, bye now,” she waved bye for the last time and we walked to our spots. I was in the middle between Sunny and Jinki. My mother and my uncle and auntie (Sunny’s parents) were in the area where the parents were to sit. 

“Welcome everyone to the choosing ceremony! The day we honour the democratic philosophy of our ancestors, which tell us we can choose our future in this world! Our dependants are now 16 and some are in their early 20’s but it doesn’t matter, and it’s up to them to choose their future today. Now I am going to call name by name and you’ll come to the front and cut yourself enough to drop a single drop of blood in any of the five baskets with the faction’s names on them all. Once done then you’ll join your new family. Any questions? No? Ok now first of all is Jung Jessica come on up.”

I look to my left to see a candor faction early adult stand up and walked to the front. She looked pretty and small but I heard she is lethal and you don’t want to mess with her, she has a mouth on her I heard. she grabs the knife and cuts her hand and drops her blood into the dauntless basket. Oh shit. Dauntless faction cheered and allowed her to join the group of her new family, her parent looked shocked and looked down sadly. Would my mother think like that?

“Next is Lee Sunny!” my cousin gets up from my left and walks down and grabs the knife cutting her hand. She looks to the baskets and then raised her arm over the amity basket and the blood landed inside. The amity group cheered to have their amity defendant back, I am glad she chose that.

“Now Liu Amber!” this Amber girl stands walking fast down the stairs and quickly to the knife cutting her hand and straight into dauntless. Again cheers came to the group. “Okay now a Lee Jinki come to the front!” my brother looked towards me with a worried look and an unsure look as well, he is going to go to another faction, I know he is. He grabbed the knife and cut his hand. He looked to the amity basket but then raised his hand and dropped his blood into the erudite faction, the intelligent faction at that, I could go with him but I am not really that smart. Jinki sat in his new family and I saw mother look down smiling sadly, oh she is going to hate me for that I am going to choose. 

“Now Kim Jongin!” Kai stands up and walks to the front, slice his hand and raises his arm, he looks to me with a peace and a smirk and his blood drops into the dauntless basket, he chose it. Many people went up and all but then I heard my name.

“Lee Taemin!” I shakily stood up and walked to the front and grabbed the knife. I sliced my hand and it did hurt a little I must say. Looking to the baskets I looked to the amity basket and the dauntless basket as well. Amity is my family for years but then again I knew others in Erudite and also in dauntless. I looked to my mother and Sunny and whispered a sorry to them and raised my hand and the blood dropped into Dauntless, oh I did it! Looking to Sunny she cheered me on and my mother looked at me disappointed but smiled to me, I turned to my new family and sat next to Kai. 

“You did it! We are going to have so much fun!” he cheers to me.

“Yeah I guess so hehe,” I giggled.

“Okay this is the end of the choosing ceremony now go on to your new factions so get a move on!” Dauntless took this in ordeal and ran outside and Kai and I did as well. Next minute I see they are climbing high as poles. Okay now I can do this. Taking steps onto the pole I climbed up to the top and helped Kai up. 

“Wow this is crazy already I must say,” he laughed and I joined in too, it was true. A train comes past us and dauntless member one after another jumps in the still moving train, Kai and I look to each other and nod running to the train. Kai makes it and reaches for my hand. I run a little faster and just made it onto the train by grabbing his arm and crashed to the floor. Oh my god that was so scary and cool at the same time! 

“I am so tired,” we both moaned and I hear a chuckle next to us. A girl was there and I remember her name was Amber. 

“Hello my name is Amber and I am a dauntless born. Nice to meet you,” Kai chuckles and I smiled, she seems nice.

“The names Kim Jongin but you can call me Kai, many people do anyways,” he was flirting I could tell, she pushed him away a little which made him chuckle again, same old Jongin. 

“My name is Lee Taemin and I am originally from amity,” I introduced myself smiling.

“Wow you are so cute! Dauntless are going to kill this and your pretty face might get dirty, don’t worry I will save you!’’ she salutes and we kept talking. I soon met others named Key and also Tao. They were cool but I kept feeling a stare from a guy from the corner, I remember his name… Kris Wufan I think, he is scary I have to say. Tao says he used to know him when younger but he says he is nice but is pretty scary at times, so stay away from him he tells me and I nod agreeing. 

Now what the hell… everyone is jumping off the train onto the roof. I am going to die. Kai jumps and the other three do as well. Ok do this you are not scared! Taking a breath I jumped out and onto the roof rolling onto the dirt. Ow! 

“EVERYONE HERE!” a man orders and we all see him next to the edge of the roof. “Welcome to Dauntless everyone, to begin your training you must jump from here down there. Who wants to go first?” no one moves and the craziest thing happened. 

“I’ll go first!” I called out walking to the edge jumping onto it. Looking down… maybe I should of zipped my mouth. 

“Ok amity huh. You are courageous I must say. Go on.” I look to Kai, Amber, Tao and Key and nod falling backwards down. Air gave out from my lungs and I felt myself hit a net. There was a net under here, oh thank you so much! A man helps me out and I stand up looking at him. Wow he was tall and… hot! Taemin stop this! I couldn’t help but see the muscles on his arms AHHHH SO HOT! 

“What’s your name?” he asked me oh my his voice is deep!

“Um…”

“Think carefully you only get one,” he laughs a little and I knew what to say.

“Tae call me Tae,” I answered and he nods writing my name I suppose on a notepad.

“FIRST JUMPER TAE FROM AMITY!” he called out. “Welcome to Dauntless… good luck Tae,” he finished walking to the net again… Can’t.Stop.Looking!
