Chapter Ten: The Embers Are New
Finn's POV:
"So, it's agreed," I said standing up. "We're going to go to the Candy Kingdom and ask Princess Bubblegum for help."
I look over at Jake who nods in agreement, then at Adam who looks sort of confused.
"Okay, then it's settled. Let's go,"
We all make our way outside, then Jake stretches so we can ride him to the Candy Kingdom.
A few minutes later we arrive outside the gates, which are made out of pretzels, that lead to town. I look over at Adam who stares in amazement.
We walk through the entrance and follow the cobblestone path, made out of peanut brittle, to the castle. From there we walk up the stairs and Jake knocks on the door.
The door opens and Peppermint Butler greets us, "Ah, Finn and Jake, here to see the princess I suppose."
"Yeah," I say. "It's kind of important, if you can't tell." I motion towards Adam.
Peppermint Butler nods and opens the door all the way so we can enter.
Once inside the door closes behind us. "Right this way," Peppermint Butler says guiding our way.
We walk up a flight of stairs and down a hallway before approaching the room Princess Bubblegum is in.
Peppermint Butler knocks, then opens the door a little, "Finn and Jake are here to see you."
"Okay, let them in," she replies.
We enter the room.
"Hey you guys, long time no see," she says pushing her chair away from a desk and looking over at us. "And who might this be?"
"This is Adam," I say. "He arrived here by accident and we need to know if you could help him get back home."
"He's a human, like Finn," Jake says.
"Oh wow," she pauses. "I'd love to help, but I'm busy working on something else."
"Please Bubblegum, this is urgent," I plead.
"Fine, if you insist," she says standing up. "But I'm going to need some more information on how Adam got here."
"Okay," Adam says.
"Great, if you will just follow me, and Finn, you and Jake can just wait until I get back." Princess Bubblegum leads Adam out of the room.
"Well," I start.
"I really should get back home to Lady or she'll be worried. Sorry dude," Jake says.
"Nah, it's fine,"
"Okay, I'll call you later or something," Jake says walking out the door, leaving me alone.
I start pacing around the room, feeling boredom take over. I walk over to the desk and look at some of the papers. Most of them involve some type of math that looks like nonsense and a few mention a plan.
One page sticks out to me, it looks to be directions to a room in the castle. Curiosity taking me over, I grab the paper and walk out into the hallway determined to find this "hidden room".
The directions lead me to a part of the castle I've never been, with dim lights and dirty floors.
A few of the lights flicker, and the usual pleasant vibe that the castle gives off is filled by one that sends chills up my spine.
