Chapter3- Jeremy and the mysterious Connor
I woke up when the plane began descending. My ears popped and I couldn't wait to stand up. It was a race to see who could get their overhead luggage the fastest because, apparently, no one liked waiting. Our group from the Climbers' Shack stood together while we waited for our bags to come. They looked so tired and I couldn't blame them. It seamed like forever while watching the bags come around; my bag was towards the end. The whole group waited for me.
We all went to Tim Hortons for breakfast; I got 2 bagels. Eating two Tim Hortons bagels reminded me of my childhood and how I used to get them in the mornings for swim meets and sometimes even morning practice.
Our group got to take our own bus to a university where some of the activities would be held. They assigned us rooms and separated boys and girls. I was a little bit nervous about not seeing Keith and Stephen for a while. I had never met my room mates but, I could tell by the look of them that they were the princess, drama queen, "pretty" type. I didn't want to be friends with that kind of person so I tried to avoid them.
I saw a non "greedy" guy go into a room with Tim, Andrew and another one of the guys who was "greedy". I felt bad for that guy because the other three guys would be doing mean things just to call themselves "greedy". I hoped he could handle it because you would have to put a lot of effort into keeping yourself safe and your stuff hidden.
I heard a stories once about their room on one of the previous trips. In one of them Tim, the leader, drank a whole big bottle of someone else's Gatorade. The other story was that they all pooped in the same toilet without flushing it. I also heard that their room smelled extremely bad.
We got to eat at the university. The all you can eat food was amazing! I didn't really like the main breaded fish stick part (breaded food is bad for you) but, I enjoyed the make your own sandwich and desert tables. After lunch they gave us some time in our rooms to get to know our room mates but because I didn't want to know mine, I took a nap.
I hated super because I had to sit with my room mates. They kept talking about fashion and makeup, two things I wasn't really into. I had never worn makeup and I didn't think about fashion because I always just wore my shorts and a random shirt.
The only good part was at the end when they began taking about boys. I was actually into that but my feelings were different from theirs. I could have sat there and argued but I decided to just listen. I was very good at listening because before we were relocated, my friends didn't have time for my, in their opinion, "less than interesting" stories. It had always been hard to find people with the same interests.
I learned some of the guys names while listening to the girls. The guy who I had noticed before, who had been rooming with the "greedy" boys, was named Connor. I was happy to know his name until I became frustrated when they talked about Stephen and Keith. I decided I now needed to speak, "That Stephen guy has some problems." As soon as I said it two things happened: they became surprized that I taked so they looked at me and I realized how mean that sounded. Here I was trying to protect my best friend from these girls and all I did was insult him. They began to officially hate me when I commented about their talk about Keith, "Keith is my boyfriend! All of you better stay away from him because he is mine." I told them.
After super the organizers of the event showed us around one of their climbing areas. It was underground and looked like a mine except the ceiling was higher and in one spot there was a big hole that ropes hung down through. It seamed like a bit of an effort to climb there because you would have to repel down in to the pit before you could climb out of it. It would be scary to lower yourself down to a place that you couldn't see the bottom of and then hope that you would be able to climb back up. If there was a way to get out without climbing, I couldn't see it.
