I was so excited. We were going on a cruise ship. The best part was my friends and their families were there too. The other passengers, on the ship, were Connor and his family, Jack and his family, Dom and his family, Brandon and his family, Robby and his family, Taylor and her family, Briana and her family, Marlene and her family, and Mackenzie and all of her family. Once we set sail the fun had begun. It was our own private cruise just for the family. It took us on a scenic route. It passed by so many beautiful islands and different landforms. I, personally, had never been a ship before; however, this was great for my first time. We were all eating around a table on the lower deck of the boat when the boat started to shake. We could hear rumbling from down below where the engines were. We thought it must have been nothing. Then we heard an alarm. We started to get up but we heard a loud bang and the whole boat shook. We were frozen. We then heard creaking and it sounded like things were being torn apart. Then we saw it. The boat was being torn in have by a huge rock. The boat had crashed into it. We immediately grabbed our stuff and we all ran in different directions. Jack, Connor, and I ran to the top of the boat. People were scrambled all over trying to escape. We ran to the edge of the boat.
I spotted some island and exclaimed, "Guys, look, there is an island in the distant!"
Jack responded, "We have to escape to the island, but how?"
Connor interjected, "We have to jump ship and make it over there."
I saw as people were falling off because the boat was tilting back and forth. I saw as people were trapped. I didn't know how to save them. I just had to save myself. As I thought, was it selfish? There wasn't any time for deep thoughts.
"Uhh.... g-guys. I don't re-really like jump-jumping into open water," I stammered.
"OH JUMP OR YOUR GETTING PUSHED IN!" hollered Connor.
I glared at him, "Fine, just let me grab some of what's left on the ship."
"I don't think we have time," mumbled Jack.
"I'll be quick. I swear," I responded.
I started searching around the boat. People's bags were scattered all over. I had our stuff, but anything could be useful since we were going to that island. A big boom made the boat shake, but I kept going. Connor and Jack just stood there and watched the waters get closer and closer to our open window. I examined the other bags to find anything useful. We took as much food and survival supplies as we could. Then we came back to the edge of the ship.
"Guys, I wanna check the higher levels for more stuff," I yelled, "I recommend you come join me."
Jack and Connor took a swift look at each other and trailed behind me. They aided me in finding more things in the bags. When we thought we had enough, we approached the edge of the ship.
"The water looks deep enough," Claimed Connor, "Okay get ready to jump!"
Jack jumped and I looked down. I closed my eyes. Three... Two... O-.
"There you go bud!" yelled Connor as he pushed me.
CONNNNNNNNNNOOOOOORRRRRRR!" I screamed, desperately.
SPLASH. I hit the water, and it knocked the wind out of me. I opened my eyes as the water flooded in them. I started to swim up to the top. As I swam I thought about what just happened. Of course, Connor had to push me. I wasn't ready! What a jerk! My eyes were cloudy but I could still see a little. I saw a blurry land figure and assumed it was the island, so I started swimming towards it. It was pretty far away but I kept going. My arms and legs became weaker the harder I pushed, and the closer it got the harder I pushed. My arms and legs almost completely gave out. I was trying to move my limbs, but they gave out. None of my body parts were working. I couldn't even look around. I just felt the ocean water push me around. Soon my back hit a solid surface. I mustered what was left of my strength to turn over on my stomach and face the island trees. The bottom half of my body was still underwater, so I began to crawl away. I slowly inched across the sandy beaches. The sand began to cover my face as I couldn't hold my body up anymore. I got as far as I could, and turned back over onto my back. The very top of the ship was still visible from what I could tell. The water and sand made it impossible to see more than blobs. I laid back and stared into the sun. I didn't know if anyone was still alive. Had Connor and Jack even made it? Was I going to make it? I felt my eyes slowly shut with the sand and water still in between them. I obviously didn't exceed the quota, but did I meet the quota?
