Uh oh. The ship was shaking. Everyone started running. I ran first and Taylor, Briana, and Marlene followed me. We ran towards the middle of the ship where people were scattered. Everyone was trying to get to the top of the boat. There were windows everywhere.
"Hey," I started, "We can break these windows and jump out."
"Good idea," reassured Taylor, as she started to break one of the windows.
Then, I heard Briana's desperate screaming.
"OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, ARE WE GONNA DIE!??!?! SAVE ME! SOMEONE GET US OUT OF HERE!"
"Shut up Briana your not going to die!" exclaimed Marlene.
"Taylor we need to go faster. Give me a chance on that window while you three find some stuff we can use to survive once we get out of here. Fill up 4 backpacks. 1 for each of us," I commanded, "I noticed an island nearby, so we can take refuge there."
It felt good to be in control, and I was doing a good job of it. Obviously, they couldn't handle themselves if they couldn't break a window. I mustered all my strength, and I struck the window with my elbow. My elbow started bleeding, immensely, I sat down. As I sat down the boat shook with a big boom. My body vibrated with it, but I stayed seated.
"I broke the window..." I tried to keep my voice from faltering.
Briana ran over and started screaming, "OH MY GOD!!! IS SHE DEAD!??!?! OH MY GOD, I THINK SHE'S DEAD!!!! WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO WITHOUT MACKENZIE?!?!?!?!"
"SHE'S NOT DEAD NOW SHUT UP AND KEEP LOOKING FOR STUFF," yelled Marlene.
Everyone seemed so scrambled. The boat just kept shaking back and forth. I could hear a faint scream from outside the ship. Had someone fallen off? I started to get really worried. A minute passed by and then I got really worried.
"Hey...um can we hurry up!" I yelled from the window. They all showed up at the stairwell. "We need to go fast. We need to jump before the ship goes underwa-"
The ship completely tilted and I started to slide. I couldn't even see what happened to them because of how fast it happened. My entire body started to ache as I was slammed into a wall. Out of nowhere, a knife darted straight towards me. I swerved onto my side, but the knife still hit me in the leg. I screamed in pain.
Taylor ran over and pulled it out of my leg. I could feel the pain as the blood oozed out of my leg. She ran back to the window.
"We need to go!" screamed Taylor, "NOW!
We were all scratched up, me way more than the others. Marlene and Briana carried all 4 backpacks, and we shuffled over to the window.
Briana immediately panicked, "WHAT IF WE DIE WHEN WE JUMP!?!?!? I'M NOT GOING FIRST!!!!"
"Fine, I'll go first," said Marlene as she jumped out.
Than Taylor jumped. Before Briana could react I pushed her out. I watched as they all swam away. The boat was being torn apart. I quickly jumped and hit the water. SPLASH. I was underwater. I swam to the top and started moving quickly towards the island. I could see the others swimming too. Surprisingly I jumped last but I was moving really fast despite my wounds, Soon enough I was right by them. I became pretty weak, but I made it to the beach. Besides the pain from my cuts, I felt fine. I was a talented swimmer after all. When I landed on the beach I immediately limped towards my friends. I turned around towards the boat and saw as it slowly sank. We all became sad and we started to cry. We were almost sure most of the people on that boat were dead. All of our family and friends. We just hoped some of them survived. We had to head straight into the island. We needed some sort of shelter. Marlene helped me walk as we be began our search for survival.
"Where are your backpacks!" I screamed.
We all looked at eachother. Only I had my backpack. Now we really need to find something.
