I stared at the burning fire as it lit up the night. The ashes and sparks flying in my face. I was alone. I was sure all of my family and friends were dead or missing, besides Max and Connor of course. The sadness consumed me, so I couldn't sleep. I got up and started walking in circles around the fire. It wasn't helping. I decided to take a midnight stroll through the untamed land. As I walked I noted the land features so I wouldn't be lost. I saw the small animals as they scurried around. That was another option, hunting. It was so peaceful at night. Soon my sadness began to fade and I began to think about the island. I wondered if anyone had ever been here before. My question was soon answered as I came across this little shack that was covered in branches and vines. It seemed to not have been cleaned in a while. I cautiously crept over and stood in front of the door. I slowly put my hand on the doorknob. Luckily, the door was open. I opened the door quickly and stepped in behind it. Luckily, again, no one was in there. I looked around the cabin. There was blood everywhere. Chills ran up my spine. As I stepped more into the shack, the floorboards creaked. It looked like there was a room under it, but I decided to wait until everyone was here to go down there. The cabin was pretty empty, but there was a box in it. It wasn't locked. I opened the box, cautiously. In it was a few surprising things. There was a pistol, some ammo for the pistol, an ax, some canned food, water, a fishing rod, some bait for fishing, and a multi-function pocketknife that had attachments like a flashlight and a screwdriver. This was golden for us. It would be much better at the camp now. Also in the cabin was a blue hoodie. I stuffed that in the box because we could wear it. I didn't know how cold it could be some days. On the ground, there were a few pillows in a corner together. I put them in the box, too. We could use them in the tent. I picked up the box and was on my way. I ran out the door and through the forest. I looked at the landmarks I had noted to make my way back. I could feel the wind hit my face as I ran as fast as I could. Although, I had gone too fast. I tripped over a branch and hit the ground head first. I landed on top of the hard, metal box. I immediately stood back up, ignoring the pain, and ran back. Soon I came out to the fire pit. The fire was on its way out since I hadn't kept it alive. I put the box down by our tent and quietly made my way in. Connor and Max were still asleep. I laid down and got comfortable. I let my eyes close and my brain shut down. Well, that was one fun night adventure.
