"Jason," Marge says calmly.
"Yes baby?" He looked up at her standing in the doorway of the bathroom, her face pale, showing signs of concern, shock, and seemingly scared. She looks at him sitting on her bed putting his shoes on, he was getting ready to sneak out of the window and get home before either of their parents found out what was going on.
She feels a lump in her throat, she feels like crying, instead she chokes it down with a hard swallow.
"What is that?" Jason asked noticing the stick like thing in her hand. After a short pause she says,
"Im pregnant."
She waits for his response, but gets nothing. A few days pass with no discussion on the pregnancy topic. Marge made an appointment with an OBGYN to confirm the home test and get an ultrasound.
She had to tell her parents of course because she was a minor, they reacted the same way any parent would react when finding out their fifteen year old daughter is pregnant.
During the ultrasound, Marge heard her baby's heart beat and seen it for the first time. She froze, unsure of how to feel about it.
Excited for creating life?
Powerful for having two heartbeats?
Scared of being a parent and raising a child? Which she has no idea how to do.
Or scared of how its suppose to come out?
Jason stood close, mesmerized by the sight and sound of the little heart beating on the screen that he helped create. His mind was blank, eyes wide, heart racing, and a since of shock took over, silence filled the small room.
Marge's parents, Darla and Ron, were waiting in the lobby with an emotional mix of happiness about being grandparents and anger of becoming grandparents to soon.
"Would you like to know the sex of your baby?" The Tech asked, breaking the silence in the room. Marge and Jason looked at each other briefly, silently deciding.
"Yes..." Jason answered.
Marge chimed in, "Am I already that far along? I just found out about this three days ago!"
"Some people are lucky enough not to start showing until they are about sixteen weeks or more into the pregnancy, but out of curiosity, since you are not showing that much, what made you want to take a home test?"
"I started feeling sick a lot, smoking, food that I love, smells, even just out of nowhere, all of it made me sick, I was throwing up a lot, which I don't throw up much so that was the biggest sign, and the thought crossed my mind that it's a possibility so I took a test to rule it out and ease my mind."
"Turned out to be the reason, we would have found out sooner had she went to see her doctor like I asked."
Jason added smiling at Marge.
The tech smiled as well, noticing the far in their faces they were trying to hide behind the smiles she says,
"I know you two are probably nervous, maybe even a little scared, and thats ok, it is normal, a lot of soon to be parents come in scared out of their wits."
She pulled a pamphlet out of the top drawer next to her and handed it to Marge.
"This is some helpful information about websites you can read through and some classes you might be interested in to help prepare you for the journey ahead."
She turned the machine off and handed them the ultrasound pictures of their baby. Both of them had their eyes glued to the tiny baby in the picture.
"Congratulations, its a boy!"
Ron and Darla stood up as soon as Jason and Marge walked into the lobby.
"Done?" Ron asked
Marge noded, and the four of them walked to the front desk together to schedual the next appointment.
"You are due back in three weeks, have a great day!"
The receptionist smiled and handed Marge the appointment card.
"So, how did it go?" Darla asked
"Fine." Marge responded in a low depressed like voice.
"How far along are you?"
"Far enough to know what I'm having."
Darla gasps..."Really? What is it?!"
"A boy."
The drive home was quiet, soft music playing low from the car radio was the only noise to be heard. Marge and Jason sitting in the back seat each looking out of their own window. Jason reached his arm across the back seat and held Marge's hand, continuing to stare out of the window he says,
"We will get through this, and we will get through it together."
"We have to get jobs, but who is going to hire me being four and a half months pregnant? Im due in December when business is picking up for the holidays. When they need me the most I wont be there, why? Because I will be to busy at the hospital trying to push a baby out of me."
"Don't worry, I will get a job and I will support us!"
"You are not old enough to get a job that pays enough to support us."
"You are right, but my dad owns his own business remember?" Winking at her as if to say 'Remember the plan'.
"So it won't be hard for me to go to work with him, especially after I tell him I'm going to be a father and I need his help to teach me how to support the family I am building."
She smiles..." We are building."
