Familiar Face

~Chapter 12~

|Kimberly's POV|

The next day after school, I was home sitting at the dinner table coloring in a coloring book that Ms. Greystone gave me as a welcome gift. I picked up a yellow crayon and started coloring in the sun on the page when I heard the door bell.

"I'll get it!" Matt called as he ran into the room wearing a black jacket with a fancy blue long sleeved shirt underneath and black khakis.

He opened the door and I saw Annie standing in the doorway wearing a knee-high green dress that matched her eyes. Her short red hair was slightly curled and she had cherry colored lip gloss.

"Hey, Annie." Matt said nervously. "You look lovely."

"Thank you. You look nice too." She said.

I got up from the table and walked over to Matt. "Are you guys going somewhere?" I asked. "Can I come too?"

Matt looked at Annie and then turned to me. "Sweetie, listen. Me and Annie are going on a date tonight, I'm sorry, but it's just some time with each other." He said as he kissed my head and turned towards the door.

"I'll be back at 9:30." He said as they left.

I saw Nash sitting in front of the TV and I went over to him. "Nash, I'm bored." I said.

Nash looked over at me and turned off the TV. "Well, what do you want to do?" He asked. "That's why I'm here for your help." I answered as he picked me up and set me down on his lap. "Well, do you want to build a fort?" He suggested.

My eyes lit up and I nodded.

"Great! Go to the closet over there and get as many blankets as possible!" He laughed as he tickled me and put me down so I could retrieve the blankets. When I came back, he was re-arranging the furniture so we could set up the fort.

It was dome square shaped, and the entrance was to crawl under a chair.

"Hand me the big green blanket." He said as I handed him the big poofy green quilt. I helped him lay it down on the floor and we piled up a bunch of pillows in the fort.

Next was the roof, and as we lay the next blanket over the chairs, we used pillows to hold it down, but we ran out of pillows, so I grabbed a lamp shade and some stuffed animals.

"Good job, we have our fort!" Nash grinned as we stepped back to look over our creation.

There was an open umbrella opened on the side where our little window was, the blankets were neatly set up, and the pillows were scattered everywhere.

It was a masterpiece!

|Nash's POV|

I was glad that Kimmy was happy. If Matt wasn't here to be her dad, I was always around to be her uncle Nash. "Come on, lets go in!" Kim said with a smile on her face.

"I'm gonna get you! Take cover in the castle quickly before the tickle dragon attacks!" I said with a smile as I flapped my arms like I was flying.

She giggled and she ran inside the fort.

I "flew" around the fort until she looked out the umbrella window and chucked a pillow at me. It hit me and I pretended that I was dying and I fell to my knees dramatically. "Oh you got me!" I exclaimed as I fell to the ground with my eyes closed and groaned.

Kimmy giggled and I heard her little feet running over to me, then she put her foot on my chest. "I have brought down the dragon!" She exclaimed.

Then, I opened my eyes, grabbed her and started tickling her, which made her burst out laughing. "Say I'm the best uncle in the world!" I said. "Your the best *laughs* uncle in the world!!!" She said between laughs.

I stopped tickling her and she smiled at me as she got up and went back to the fort. I looked at the clock and saw that it was already 8:00. We've been playing for almost an hour and a half!

"Hey, Kim, it's time for bed, you have school in the morning." Nash said as she poked her head out of the tent. "Aww, can I sleep in the fort?" She asked.

"If that will make you happy." I said. "Yay!" She cheered as she disappeared back in the tent as I stood up. I went in the tent and saw her setting up a little sleeping area for herself.

"Mind if I stay as well?" I asked and she smiled. "Not at all! Join me, my minion!" Kim giggled as she hugged her little stuffed bunny. Just then, we heard Poppy coming towards us and she squeezed past me and lay down beside Kim and licked her face.

Kimmy smiled and soon, we were all asleep.
