The sun was blazing over the trees, reflecting the dew drops on the leaves. A group of Clan cats were all sitting in the clearing, sharing tongues and telling each other stories.
A slender black tom walked over to the pile of dead mice and grabbed a piece of the plump prey. He made his way to the leaf-covered den and saw a light gray she-cat, cradling three little kits. Upon arriving at the nursery, the tired she-cat looked up to see the black tom's vivid yellow eyes.
"Oh no, did I accidentally wake you up?" he quietly stammered.
His mate shook her head, "No dear, it's alright."
The black tom licked Brightdust's forehead and plopped down next to her. He dropped the fresh-kill on the sandy ground next to them. Brightdust leaned on Ravenbreeze's flank, lapping at his fur as thanks for bringing her prey. They both started to take bites out of the food. As Ravenbreeze started to get full, he nudged the mouse towards his mate.
"I had enough, you can have the rest," Ravenbreeze chuckled.
"You have to go hunt and do patrols, you definitely need it more," Brightdust responded while pushing the mouse back into Ravenbreeze's paws.
The tom quietly put his tail in front of Brightdust's mouth, "You're going to wake up the kits, just take it, the kits need it."
She rolled her eyes and licked Ravenbreeze's nose, grabbing the carcass, and she finished the rest of the mouse. A small yawn came from underneath Brightdust's tail. They both looked at where the sound was coming from with terrified eyes, hoping that their kit didn't wake up from its peaceful slumber. A head popped out from underneath the light gray tail. Her eyes opened showing the same piercing colored eyes as her father.
"Aww my little pumpkin, Cloverkit, do you want to go play?" Ravenbreeze asked.
"Yes, daddy! Can Pigeonkit and Furzekit play too!?" Cloverkit replied as she started to wake up her littermates.
He nodded as he helped them up. Brightdust tiredly cleaned up the three kits before they took off with their father on an adventure. The three kits met up with Applekit and Troutkit. The two sisters were only one to two moons older than Brightdust's litter.
"Furzekit, that is a pinecone, not food. Please put it down," Cloverkit whispered, trying to not cause attention to her stupid brother.
The other kits heard and put their attention to the two gray kits.
"Why does he think that everything is food? I'm just wondering," Applekit curiously asked, hoping she didn't offend Furzekit.
"I'm so so so sorry, he isn't the brightest kit, but I believe that he'll get smarter before he becomes an apprentice," Cloverkit exclaimed as she continued to push the pinecone out of Furzekit's mouth.
"I'm so bored," Pigeonkit blatantly yells, drawing all the attention towards him.
"What do y-you want to d-," Troutkit slowly spoke but with a slight mess up, she closed her mouth.
"Yeah, what do you want to do," a different voice came from behind Applekit.
"Swiftkit, maybe we should test who can swim better," Pikekit chuckled from behind his sister.
Swiftkit turned to face to her brother, "I'll race you to the river."
"You always win, that's not fair," Pikekit pouted.
"I want to join too! Maybe we should get a headstart to make the playing field even for us," Applekit proposed.
Swiftkit rolled her eyes, but she agreed, "Fine."
All seven kits lined up at the line drawn by Cloverkit. Applekit lightly pushed Swiftkit a few pawsteps behind. She grumbled while she moved back, behind the other six cats.
As soon as every cat was situated, they all changed, "Three, two, one..."
They were off! Swiftkit quickly caught up to the other kits. She leaped ahead of the group. The other kits tried their hardest to catch the speedy she-cat, but with no prevail. They gave first place to Swiftkit.
"Maybe next time, we should make Swiftkit more pawsteps back?" Applekit proclaimed.
Troutkit nodded looking down at the grass before she made eye contact with Applekit.
"Sounds good," Pikekit joked. Cloverkit agreed with her littermate and Swiftkit sighed but agreed with the suggestion. Furzekit grabbed a leaf and held it in his mouth while Pigeonkit didn't care about the issue and started to walk away, swishing his tail around, indicating that he was bored and tired.
"Can we swim in the water now," Pikekit begged, anticipating the moment in which he can show the other kits his skills.
They all walk to the shore, it was small not big, but they still shouldn't go too deep into the river. Pikekit hopped in and started to swim, the others followed slowly and gently. Pikekit tried to show all of the kits how fast he can paddle in the water. Swiftkit struggled a bit, but with the help of her brother, she was swimming freely on her own.
Cloverkit and Applekit got the hang of it a little after Swiftkit. Troutkit was a natural and though she made a little yelp and hesitated to swim. Upon getting in the river, no cat would've thought she could swim so naturally. As soon as Furzekit touched the water, he fainted and started to sink to the bottom of the river. Swiftkit swam out of the water and quickly ran to try and find Ravenbreeze
"Furzekit, you idiot!" Pikekit exclaimed as he made his way to the drowning tom.
He grabbed the fuzzy gray fur and tried his best to grab the sinking tom onto the shore. Troutkit, Applekit, and Cloverkit help drag the kit onto land. He coughed out some water and then just rested there as Ravenbreeze gets to his kit.
"Fuzzy, are you going to be okay?" he panicked.
The kit mumbled, "Yeah, I'm okay..." He continued to rest on the sand.
Ravenbreeze grabbed Furzekit by the scruff and motioned the other kits to follow. Pigeonkit came from behind the oak tree; apparently watching them the whole time.
"That was eventful," he scoffed as he followed the rest of the kits back to the camp.
