DEAR JOURNAL,

today, mamoru and his friends approached me just as i was leaving. neesan and our friends were off to their respective activities again, so i had to walk alone again. or so i thought.

"hey, mamoru, ariba, mari, nyx, malcolm and iris?" i listed off their names, mentally hoping that i didn't get any of them wrong. luckily, they confirmed that i was right.

"hello, hisakawa-san." mamoru respectfully returned my greeting, "we have been summoned to accompany you."

i regarded that with a confused look (though they probably didn't see it, considering how half of my face is blocked by my bangs). "what?"

mari cut in. "well, you see, mamoru's sorta-girlfriend, chiyoe, asked him to. apparently some dudes are bothering you? anyway, lover boy over here agreed and roped us in as well."

mamoru blushed at her remark.

i felt slightly guilty at that. "you guys don't have to—"

"nonsense!" ariba interrupted me before i could finish my sentence, "don't worry, we will get you home safely."

i allowed them to walk me home. as we passed by the gates, the two guys were hanging out over there, glaring at me, but they also directed their glower at malcolm and iris, for some reason? at that, iris just flipped his hair and didn't really seem to give a shit.

"you know those guys?" i finally asked, looking at them. iris rolled his eyes.

"unfortunately. those homophobic assholes used to bother me and malcolm, but we gave them the beatdown of their life. so they just glare at us now. personally, i think they're jealous." iris answered carelessly, as if he wasn't scared of them at all.

"oh."

i envied him and malcolm. i wish i could be like them too. they didn't seem scared of what remarks or evil looks those homophobes could offer—no, they just took it in stride. maybe i could be like them too, but...

sadly, i was afraid.
