Happy 4th of July!! Being the history nerd I am, I'm so freaking excited today that I actually went outside and took a walk, which is something I never do. This chapter has some inaccurate historic facts, so please don't attack me. Short Chapter.
Warning: Grab some tissues. I cried when I made this chapter.
Alexander POV
Eliza- Alexander, there's a letter for you from South Carolina.
Alexander- If it's from John Laurens, I'll read it later.
Eliza- No, it's not.
Now I'm worried. I stand up from the chair and walk towards her. She has worried and sad eyes.
Alexander- Will you read it?
Eliza looks at me for a few seconds. She looks at the paper, takes a deep breath and starts to read. I look at the top of the letter and it says H. Laurens. Henry Laurens?
Eliza- "On Tuesday the 27th, my son was killed in a gunfight against loyalists who were angry about the Patriot's victory against British troops. The war was already over. He is buried there in New York City until his family can send for his remains. As you know, John dreamed of emancipating and recruiting 3,000 men for the first all-black military regiment. They have been returned to their rightful owners. His dream for freeing these men dies with him."
Somewhere in the room, I feel a spirit touch my shoulder. I turn around and see Laurens' ghost with his hand on my shoulder.
John- Tomorrow there'll be more us...
With that, he disappears in front of my eyes, along with pieces of my heart that has shattered into a million pieces. I feel a stinging sensation forming in my eyes as I'm about to cry. My thoughts were interrupted by a hand on mine.
Eliza- Alexander, are you alright?
No, I am not alright. I start to walk out of the room. Without turning around, I speak to her.
Alexander- I have so much work to do.
With that, I go to the bedroom and lock myself in. I don't leave the room for the rest of the night. I don't think I ever will now.
Really short chapter, I am so sorry my friends. I just wanted to have Laurens' Interlude as it's own chapter, and not mixed with another chapter. I'll make another chapter today.
Edit: I made my first Lams book, so make sure to check it out if you love Lams!
