Keith and Lance were finally taking a break from their busy lives and going to a bar in downtown. They'd been roommates for over two years, and good friends for three. They both had well paying jobs at some small companies. They didn't need to be roommates anymore, but they secretly enjoyed each other's company.
The twist was that Lance worked for a business that was a cover for the top villain group in their city, and Keith worked for a business that was a cover for the top superhero group. Neither of them knew it, but the fought each other often.
Lance was Frost, who controlled cold. His skin would turn light blue when he was fighting, and he wore a sleeveless skin tight "romper."
Keith was Lupis, a human-wolf. His superhero form was his wolf form, so no one really would recognize him.
So back to the bar trip. Lance's company-provided watch buzzed with an alert. Keith's did so, too.
"I need to use the bathroom," they both said, and laughed and headed towards the bathroom. Lance went into a stall to change, and Keith just jumped out the window.
Lance came out as Frost moments later, and figured Keith had gone back to the club already.
Keith was already on the run to the location. Lance's group was attacking a nearby bank, and Keith was sent to stop them. Civilians pointed as he went past. Keith tried his best to smile at all the younger kids.
Lance went out the window as well, but he kept going up, propelled by cold air streams. He landed on the roof of the bank, looking for enemies. He saw Lupis running down the street. He shot ice at his feet. Lupis slipped and growled and saw Frost settling down next to him.
"Hey, Lupis. Long time no see," Lance taunted. Lupis growled again. "Angry, are we?"
"Frost, Get out of my way," Lupis demanded.
Frost laughed. "Make me." With that, he put ice around Lupis' feet. The ice starting moving up towards Lupis' face.
Lupis broke out, but he had something else on his mind. Frost, obviously, used a voice changer, but the underlying tone sounded familiar.
Frost was the villain group's strongest asset, so if Keith undid the voice changer, he could figure out who Frost was and kill him when he was off guard. Then it would be easy to defeat the villain group. He pressed a button on his watch that started recording.
"Hey, Frost!" Lupis yelled at Frost, who was now ten feet above him.
"Oh, gotten into trouble again, have we?" Frost teased as he went back to the group. Lupis lunged at him, but he was anticipating it.
They sparred until Frost's group got what they wanted and retreated, and with them, took Frost.
Keith went back to the club, changed back and tried his best to hide any and all marks on him. He went out and tried to find Lance, who showed up a few moments later.
"Sorry, I needed fresh air," Lance said.
"Okay." They got their drinks and carried on with their night.
They went home and Lance went to bed. Keith opened up his laptop and plugged in the audio from earlier.
He thought it sounded like the mod called Harlem. He ran it through the opposite of it.
"Oh, gotten into trouble again, have we?" It sounded very similar to someone he knew. Who was it? Who was it? It was- oh, it was on the tip of his tongue! It was Lance! Lance was Frost? How?
Keith had an idea. Next time they fought, he would give him a mark where Lance couldn't hide. Then he would know.
Meanwhile, Lance couldn't sleep. Something about Keith seemed off. He seemed to be limping a bit. He also didn't take off his shoes and socks as soon as he got home. The only thing he could think of was him encasing Lupis' feet in ice. That couldn't be right. Could it?
Lance had an idea. Next time he saw Lupis, he'd give him frostbite in a place where it was hard to hide. Then he would know.

Lance slept in. He ran to work late. On his route, however, there was a fight. Some civilian had started being violent. Lupis was there.
Keith made eye contact with Lance. "Sir, you need to get out of here!"
Lance was frozen.
"Sir!" Lupis ran towards him, picked him up and moved him about a block. "Stay safe."

This was odd. Why was Lance out here so late? He must've been late for work. When Keith got back to HQ, he checked his phone.

Lance: I just woke up whoops
Keith: Nice
Lance: I saw Lupis this morning.

Lance only said this to see if there was a reaction.

Keith: Nice
Lance: you gonna say anything except nice?
Keith: Nice

Keith laughed.
"Who's that?" Shiro, another hero, asked.
"My roommate," Keith said. Keith rested, like he usually did. He checked his Instagram. Then his watch buzzed. He groaned and set out.

Frost was creating a distraction. He took a valuable crystal from a museum while his team stole a diamond from a different museum.
He was tossing the crystal between his hands, waiting for heroes to turn up.
It was just Lupis. This was Lance's opportunity. He held the crystal in one hand as he shot frostbite to the inside of Lupis' wrist. He specifically sent a purple burst.
This was Keith's opportunity. After being struck with frostbite, he caught Frost in the face. Frost grimaced at the four lines bleeding on his face.
"Give me the crystal, and we won't have a problem," Lupis warned.
"Oh, you already have a problem. The most valuable thing in this city's been stolen," Frost raised an eyebrow.
"That crystal is far from precious," Lupis growled.
Frost cackled. "I'm not talking about the crystal. It's only worth, what, two hundred? Lame."
Lupis growled and sent an alert to HQ. His brainwaves would be read as, "They're stealing something else. I'll handle Frost."
Lupis lunged for Frost and caught his foot as he shot up. Frost grunted. Lupis tightened his grip and pulled him to the ground. He kicked him in the stomach and side. Then he thought about it maybe being Lance underneath the costume. He took the crystal from Frost and ran away.
Why did he let me go? Lance wondered. Did he know who he was? Was that Keith? Did he maybe think it was Lance?

Lance and Keith were both sent home from work early. They entered their apartment together, somehow.
"Keith," Lance said. He grabbed his wrist, and turned it over. Purple. Keith yanked back.
"What the hell, Lance?" Keith said. Then he saw the mark on Lance's face.
Lance ran out.
"Wait, Lance!" Keith called. Keith ran after him, but Lance was fast. Keith had an idea where he was going.
"Lance!" He yelled. It was now foggy and rainy. Keith slowed at the bridge. He saw a figure in the distance, sitting on the railing. He ran towards it.
"Lance!" He shouted. "Don't!" The figure turned around. Keith got to him.
Lance was crying. Keith outstretched his arms. Lance collapsed into him, sobbing against his chest. Keith slowly lowered him to the ground.
"I'm sorry," Lance repeated over and over. Once Lance had calmed, Keith let him go but kept his hands on his arms. "You're not gonna kill me?"
Keith shook his head. "I couldn't if I wanted to. Look, we can work this out."
Lance sniffed. "We can?"
Keith nodded. "I'll retire, get a real job."
"But you're so talented. You can't retire."
"Shut up."
"I'd retire, too. I don't want to do this anymore."
They talked through it and eventually came to a consensus. Both would retire under the impression it was too much work. They both did have money to be good for a very long time, but they were easily bored.
"And Keith?" Lance said.
"Yeah."
"Thank you."
"Of course."
There was silence. "And Lance?"
"Yeah?"
"I really like you."
Lance gasped and kissed Keith. Keith was surprised, but kissed back. They stood there, in the pouring rain, a superhero and a villain, two boys who'd fallen utterly in love.
