"Shiro, you know I don't like loud places," I groaned. Shiro was dragging me to his friend's sibling's band's performance. Specifically Matt's sibling's band's performance. I'd met Matt in passing before. He was an ex-turned-friend of my brother's, but they'd dated before Shiro and I fixed the problem we'd had. We'd grown distant after our dad's death, six years ago. We were actually half brothers, but whatever.
"I know, Keith, but just ten minutes and we can go if you want," Shiro said. "You'll love them as people, though. I promise."
I rolled my eyes. "Whatever."
Matt's sibling, Pidge, was on drums. A boy named Hunk, who Shiro had worked with at some point, was on keyboard and bass. The lead vocalist was some boy I didn't know. The guitarist was a chick I also didn't know, but she had a weird name. Alara? Something like that.
The gig was at a local grill and bar. It was a Friday night, which meant it was crowded. We got there as the band, which had been named Vrep It Sah (weird), was setting up. Pidge was a petite kid who was no more than seventeen. Hunk was a stocky boy, maybe older than Pidge. I identified the lead singer, a Latino-looking boy with brown hair and blue eyes. He was tall, and looked to be about the same age as Hunk. The guitarist was a black girl with platinum blonde hair. She was pretty, I'd give her that.
"What's up, Empire Grill?" The lead singer said. There was a whoop. "Well, we're Vrep It Sah, have a lovely evening!"
They played Believer by Imagine Dragons first. It was really good. The lead singer was pitch perfect, and not to mention gorgeous. Their next song was Water Fountain, not a big hit, but still good. We stayed for ten minutes, then twenty, then forty, then they were done. We even stayed after to congratulate them. I stayed close to Shiro. Hunk approached Shiro first.
"Is this Adam?" He gestured at me.
"Ew!" Shiro and I both yelled.
"I'm his brother, Keith," I introduced myself.
"Oh," Hunk laughed. "Sorry."
I was introduced to Pidge and Allura, then Lance.
"Hey Shiro!" They bro-hugged. "Adam?" He pointed at me.
"No, I'm Shiro's brother. Keith." I laughed.
"Oh, my bad. The name's Lance."
"Nice to meet you."
"As to you. We're gonna grab some ice cream if you guys wanna come too. Matt's coming," Lance offered. Shiro looked at me.
"Sure," I said. Shiro looked surprised. "The place on Main Street?" Lance nodded.
"We'll see you there," Shiro smiled. We got into Shiro's old car again, some crappy pickup. I'm not a fan of pickups, really. We got to the joint, which was called "Dessert First."
"I bet you'd like Lance as dessert first," Shiro teased.
"Oh, shut up," I rolled my eyes.

I hit it off with the band immediately. Lance was funny, Pidge was spunky and Hunk was sweet. Allura was chill, but she mostly hung out with Matt and Shiro. Shiro had to drag me away even. I got Lance, Pidge and Hunk's numbers and was added to the Vrep It Sah group chat. Why? I don't know.

Vrep It Sah Dude
Allura: Great show tonight, guys!
Keith: good job
Lance: yep
Hunk: Fantastic!
Pidge: lit

Lance: are you coming to our show on Tuesday Keith?
Keith: probably
Keith: I'll just have to see how Tuesday goes
Lance: cool it's at the bistro downtown
Keith: will do

I showed up at the show. And the next. And a few more. Then they started getting gigs at house parties. The first one I went to, but I had an anxiety attack and left early. I didn't want my new- and only- friends to see me like that.
