Morning arrives and I wake up to a peaceful one of no music and just the birds singing outside, a couple of lawn mowers and a dog barking who's probably out for his morning walk. The blissful sounds of a normal morning that are both a little noisy yet relaxing, especially with the airplanes I can hear flying overhead. I try opening my eyes but my brain won't work with me so I just pull my blanket up higher and snuggle back into my bed. I could easily sleep for another hour or two and that's exactly what I planned on doing except for the fact that I couldn't shake the feeling that something was a bit off. Usually there's music coming from Cameron's room and there's usually bangs from the kitchen that lets me know that mom is cooking and dad's probably getting ready for work. Today though, I hear none of those things. At first I think that I've somehow stepped into the Twilight Zone overnight but then I reason that that's just crazy. Oh, God, zombies.
Finally, I open my eyes with the thought of a zombie apocalypse currently taking place and roll over to check the time on my clock. Usually, everyone is always up early and since I'm hearing nothing from downstairs, it might be later or earlier than I thought it was. Everything's blurry and it takes me a second to remember that I wear glasses. I reach over and grab them and slip them on. I blink a couple of times to clear my vision and I see that the clock reads 7:40 in the morning. I flop back in bed and close my eyes. Maybe mom, dad, and Cameron are just being quiet for once. Or maybe they're not even home which doesn't seem all that likely since mom and dad don't have to leave for another hour for work.
"7:40. Awesome," I mumble sleepily to myself. I lay in bed for a minute before my brain starts working again and things start registering. 7:40. On Friday. Jace. Finals. My eyes shoot open. Oh, crap.
"Crap, the test!" I say. I fly out of bed and rip through my closet for a pair of jeans, and a top. I don't bother making my bed or even brushing my teeth, that will take too much time if I don't want to be late for school. I quickly wash my face and eat five sticks of mint gum while I throw my hair in a loose ponytail and I grab my backpack from my desk chair, throw a button up over my shirt to look more put together and fly out of my room and down the hall. I stop in front of Cameron's door and don't bother knocking before pushing her door open to find her fast asleep with her hair sticking out everywhere from her messy bun. "Cameron!" I say loudly.
"Justin Bieber," she says, her head shooting up and her eyes half closed and her bangs plastered onto her face. I guess not even the prettiest of people can avoid sleeping ugly.
"Cameron, get up!" I snap. I go over to her window and rip the curtains open to let in the daylight.
"Audry!" Cameron exclaims covering her face. "Light bright! Light bright!"
"Get up your highness," I say shaking her.
"Why?" She asks still sleepy. She flops down on her bed and buries her face in her pillow. "What's so important?"
