Chapter 7
TRENT'S POV
It's been a week since I went out to dinner with my dad and Travis. I haven't gotten to see Cali as much as I had hoped, since other employees were training me now. We still have lunch together though if our breaks align. The strange feelings that erupt inside me when I'm around her are only growing stronger. I push them back as much as I can though.
My best friend Jake suggested going out to some new club tonight and I agreed immediately. I need to distract myself from this girl; maybe I'll find a girl to get laid tonight. That should help get her off my mind.
"Trent, when you go back to the front desk, ask Cali to join us for Thanksgiving tomorrow. I ask her every year, but she always turns me down, maybe she'll say yes to you since I know you two have been hanging out," my dad jokingly glares at me.
Does she not have family? Does she spend the holiday alone? No, I need to stop worrying about her.
I give him a sheepish smile. "Will do dad," I say and toss my garbage before leaving. I had lunch with my dad today since Cali's break was earlier than mine.
I walk towards the front where I was mostly working today as a bellhop with a younger guy named Oscar. Oscar greets me with a smile and tries offering me a hat identical to his again.
"Come on, it's part of the uniform," he says seriously, but there's a smile threatening to form on his face.
"I'm not wearing that shit," I respond the same way I had this morning. They were lucky I even agreed to wear the rest of the uniform. I hear a giggle from behind me and turn to see Cali watching me in amusement.
"Oh, come on Trent, you're supposed to be getting the full experience of every job and Oscar has to wear it," she says with a raised eyebrow. Oscar wears a smug look as he holds the hat out to me again.
I glare at Cali who watches me expectantly before snatching the hat from Oscar and placing it on my head. "Happy?" I ask the two of them and they both look on the verge of laughter. "Don't even think about it..." I threaten.
Cali's face turns red before she can't hold it back any longer. She bursts into loud laughter, Oscar following close behind.
I glare at the two of them when Dana suddenly walks into the lobby and says "Looking good Townes," with a straight face. She sits down beside Cali and looks to her giggling friend with a small smile.
"Well since I agreed to wearing this stupid hat, now you owe me," I approach the desk. Cali continues to smile with a questioning look on her face. "You have to have Thanksgiving with my family."
CALI'S POV
Mr. Townes invites me to Thanksgiving with his family every year and every year I say no. I feel bad, but since I started here he has made me feel uncomfortable, so if I can avoid seeing him on one of the few days I have off then I will.
"I actually already agreed to going to Dana's family's house," I tell him honestly.
Dana scoffs from beside me. "Oh come on Cal, just accept poor Mr. Townes' invitation for once, you've spent the last few Thanksgivings with my family you can miss one," she tells me.
I turn back to Trent and he smiles widely, knowing I'm out of an excuse. "Um, okay, then..." I answer blandly.
"Awesome, I'll text you when and where when I talk to my dad," Trent says with a proud smirk before going to help Oscar with the luggage of the tourists who just walked in.
