Chapter 11

TRENT'S POV

I'm currently making a bed, I didn't realize there was a wrong way to make a bed, but according to Genie I was doing it wrong.

"No, no, no fold the blanket this way!" Genie pushes me aside to show me the 'right' way to fold.

"Oh come on I thought I did this one exactly right this time!" I complain and I can see Genie fighting a smile.

"Close, but not quite," she says. I roll my eyes and watch her unfold the blanket and refold it almost exactly how I had it already. "There, perfect," she stands back to admire her work as I stare at her with a 'are you kidding me' look.

She looks at me and laughs. "You'll get a hang of it soon enough," she tells me.

Today was clearly the day I would be helping the maids of the hotel. I had a mentor with each job I did, so far I've worked with Thomas the doorman, Oscar the bellhop, Penny the janitor, Genie the maid, and my favorite Cali the receptionist.

My dad thought having me do this for the weeks leading up to handing the company over would be not only a challenge but also a punishment of sorts. It was a punishment for dropping out of college and going MIA for years. I don't think he realized in those years I actually finished my degree, but away from our family. I had my reasons for disappearing and I don't regret it. I enjoyed getting to know all the employees here, I didn't mind the manual labor, I mean I was used to it when I went away.

"Hey Genie could I take a quick break," I ask as we get ready to move onto the next floor. She raises an eyebrow at me questioningly. "I just need to talk to a friend real quick."

She slowly smirks. "Is this friend's name possibly Cali?"

See for the last nearly two weeks, I've gotten to know the staff very well and well in return they've gotten to know me. Cali is very popular in this hotel, everyone seems to know and love her. So when I started spending a lot of time around her the staff started talking. Last I heard Oscar was betting Thomas that Cali and I would be dating by the end of the year.

"That's the one," I return the smirk. I liked teasing them; I don't think they knew that I knew about their gossiping.

"Don't take too long," she says and steps off the elevator. I press the lobby button and pull out my phone. I had a text from my dad asking if I knew what happened to my brother... I ignore the text and shove my phone back in my pocket.

I haven't seen him since I beat the shit out of him. It was only two days ago, but I'm always running into him around the hotel. I don't regret it; I'd do it again.

The elevator doors open and I head to the front desk where I knew Cali would be. And there she was looking as beautiful as ever. She was talking on the phone and Dana was typing next to her. She looks up and sees me, nudging Cali. Cali looks up and her face lights up when she sees me. Her reaction alone has my chest warming, but it's that smile that gets my heart racing.

I walk to the desk and lean against it as she finishes her phone call. Her bright smile disappears as she listens to the person on the other end.

"I know that," she says and her eyes flicker to mine. She gives me a forced smile and holds a finger up. I nod and continue to watch her. "Look I will have to call back when I'm not working... yeah okay, thank you," she says and hangs up.

"Who was that?" I ask and she looks back to me, her eyes not holding the same spark they had when she looked at me before.
